solstice /ˈsōlstəs/: the date at which the sun reaches its minimum declination, marked by the shortest day of the year. derived from the Latin sol ("sun") and sistere ("to stand still"), the sun appears to stand still on this particular day; however, this mix will have you groovin all night.

Solstice caps off my 6th and final mix of 2021 as well as my last project until Icelantic's of Winter on the Rocks where I have the honor of opening for Diplo, Sofi Tukker, Talib Kweli, and DJ Matt Cassidy at the legendary Red Rocks amphitheater. In addition, I wanted to dedicate Solstice to a very close friend of IWOTR, Gary Wyman, who's battle with ALS ended on winter solstice 2018:

"When I think about Gary (and like many of us, I think about Gary often), a BIG smile always effortlessly comes to my face. For those of us who were lucky enough to know Gary, we were just that…Lucky enough. Gary was the kindest, most adventurous, patient, athletic, compassionate, intelligent, inspiring, and driven soul for so many of us. He was a trusted confidant to many, a best friend to even more, a caring & loving brother and son, a supportive and devoted husband & puppy papa, a damn good looking guy, and the funnest snowboarder to follow.  

"Gary was ALWAYS a passionate supporter and producer of Winter on the Rocks, and founding member of The Pinecone Project. He was driven to sprinkle his magic over the show every year, and always did his best to ensure the Winter on the Rocks community and fans were the MOST important component to every show. One year, Gary and I were at Red Rocks walking through the venue, and Gary looked at me and said “Sammy, we have no idea just how lucky we are, do we?”… During the time, I simply sighed in agreement…

Looking back, I now know with crystal clear clarity….

Gary - I know just how lucky everyone who was able to experience you and your magic was to have you in our lives. I confidently know you are with us in spirit everyday. The Winter Solstice is a time for re-birth, re-grounding energy, and celebration of brighter and longer days ahead. Gary past away three years ago today, but his spirit and magic continues to grow stronger year over year. We love you, Gar. This year’s iWOTR is for you." - Sam Warren
