I think it was at Skylark, a bar and meatball spot in Rochester where we first saw and played with Mikaela - this was one of VERY few Rochester shows we played away from our beloved Bug Jar. I remember Dan and her having a conversation on the sidewalk outside the venue about cats. It was over 100 degrees and balmy on the stage which led to the only time I've worn a tank top and shorts at a performance, but perhaps more importantly, it set a strange, hallucinatory mood for Mikaela's harp-led set. After that show, we were all enamored with Mikaela, her band and their music. 

We've all become good friends over the years and Mikaela was nice enough to lend her harp skills to the Bad Dreams interlude on How Do You Feel Now? If you've listened, you know it adds this amazing, narcotic and dreamy mood the end of the record that might not have been possible without her. 

If you haven't listened to her own music before, change that. She has great stuff out already, and some amazing music on its way. 

Here are a few pieces of information about the remix:

- I think most of it came together in a hotel room in Las Vegas and on various airplanes (I think there are some samples of ambient airplane noise within). We were there to play a show on this massive outdoor stage in Downtown LV but we kind of cowered in our rooms for the rest of our time there, hiding from the hijinx of the casinos and nightclubs below. We're not really the gambling/Vegas types. 

- Arranging the chords with her vocal definitely happened on an airplane. If you've ever made music on a jet, you know - depending on the noise cancellation quality of your headphones -  it can be extremely difficult to hear the actual notes you're playing. However, this resulted in some strange but really interesting harmonies that I otherwise wouldn't have thought of. 

- Rhythmically, this was a challenging remix to take on because Mikaela's drummer Alex is honestly one of my favorite drummers ever - he has amazing taste. Taking the percussion they put together for the original song and trying to re-imagine or inject some of my own flavor to it felt a little sacrilegious to me, but I'm pleased with how it turned out and the energy I was able to add to the song. 

When The White Horse Takes Me Away (Joywave Remix)

Instead of putting out another track, Lorin decided to bounce a bunch of shit down into some stems (different drum lines, synths, basses, etc) and release it for fans to play around with.  Im still tinkering with a few things, but I decided to release it to you all before I finish mastering it to turn it in!  Let me know what you think, and like always, enjoi.
