I feel like I have tried to approach many different musical ideas and expressions as an artist. "birds in september" is the journey of connecting back to my roots as a guitarist, and was written during the cold month of January. The one thing that always brings me back to basics is my innate love for playing guitar. I like to think about this album as an ode to my 15-year-old self, and the teenager that was just learning to express herself through an instrument for the first time. What was intended to be an ep written using only guitar, quickly evolved into the supportive arrangement of synths, crystal singing bowls, and of course, field recordings.

The story behind the title includes a personal astrology reading that I had done earlier in the year by a dear friend. She offered guidance about each month and what to be aware of, and all I remember was her saying that there would be lots of birds in September. Although I was unclear about what that really meant, I was intrigued about the possibility of what that could mean, and all I could think about was, wow, what a great album name that would make!

I felt that over the course of the last few years, certain things in my life had really come full circle. In celebration of my 33rd birthday (June 7th), I felt that there would be no better way to celebrate other than releasing this album!
