Band Biography

Established in 2006, Noble Savage is a Chicago-based hip hop crew that’s evolved from a love for beats, and a desire to see Hip Hop resurrect itself. NS came to be when Clever One and Dooley Noted met through mutual friends on the North Side of Chicago, after which they cooked up some tracks and played with a few other musicians.  As a 7- piece band, the Noble Savage crew played large loft parties throughout Chicago in 2006. Eventually, due to scheduling and creative differences, Noble Savage tailored down to 2 MCs and 1 DJ in early 2007, and refocused themselves by getting back to their roots, musically. The nucleus looked to DJ Smut (Dooley Noted’s older brother) to back them up for their gigs, and it fit perfectly. Smut had been active for years in the local DJ/hip hop scene and his presence, as well as love for Hip Hop solidified the project. The crate-digger mentality was applied to the alchemy of making beats, and NS started to develop a dynamic style. Samples from wide-ranging genres served as the scenery for raps devised by Clever One and Dooley Noted, who honed their ability producing at the same time. The result was a combination, sees the band on solid ground today. NS’ beats are grimy and gritty, and their live show an alphabetic assault that feels balanced and calculated, with Clever One and Dooley Noted complimenting each others’ styles perfectly. The relatively recent addition of friend and accomplice, Wild Seed in 2009, has added a texture and versatility to their sound and furthers NS’ mission. As a unit, they pay homage to the classics while breathing new life into the art. Their all poets and life-long students, rap historians and beat connoisseurs. When rappers act, their craft suffers, and that’s exactly why Noble Savage wears their heart on their sleeve. These 3 MC’s and their DJ are an example of real hip hop made by real people. No characters or inflated ego’s, just pensive rhymes with tracks that make you nod your head.
