Earlier this year, ARTCORE took another bold step into a new and innovative direction with the first release of its DUO series. So far Avan7, Becker, Interactive Noise, Marhu, Valentinø, Giorgia Angiuli and BEC have all featured as part of this new concept – in which two artists are selected to feature on one EP.

ARTCORE DUO IV see’s CHRS and SUMIA join forces, with 2 tracks each to be released on the 5th June. CHRS, a Sicilian artist who is no stranger to the label, is also a resident and label manager of Phase 2. With shows this year in his home of Catania, Phase 2’s Festival as well as Hi Ibiza, his sound is trace, with groove and experimental touches, all elements he’ll add to an exciting remix planned for a historic artist later this year. 

SUMIA, also known as Turkey’s “Princess Of Hard Dance”, is the founder of charity event ‘Stronger Together’ and the Volx community Records owner. She says her sound is currently evolving, and this release leans more towards a trance/bounce direction, whilst she embarks on a new concept to perform her own tracks totally live during her DJ sets at some of her upcoming shows this summer in Rome, Serbia and Japan.

SUMIA opens the release with ‘Kill Mia’. An alarm like synth provides the foundation of the melody which begins with the classic ‘trill’ transition accompanied by rotating bass notes, shotgun claps and whispering vocals.

CHRS employs the incredible vocals from Revia on ‘Missing Pieces’. The track showcases his trademark sound, with a pacy concoction of supercharged percussive power and thrumming pad effects open before the soulful vocals begin to flow to provide nuance, whilst a potent core of dramatic synth fills rumble coldly beneath.

SUMIA didn’t earn her title of her ‘Hardcore Princess’ by accident. On ‘Fisiltiar’, she expertly fuses fierce bass chops and imposing drums with a reverberating, siren like effect. But, out of almost nowhere, a charming stringed chorus intercepts before the melody takes its final drop and bursts with shockwaves of electric musicality.

CHRS closes the release with ‘Inside The Heart’. A venture into drum n bass / neurofunk territory, offering an adrenaline fuelled ride through a counter-current of amen drum patterns, melancholic stabs and serene, euphonious vocal elements. A beautifully linear soundscape that delivers a whole new and welcome audio experience for the ARTCORE faithful.

04 CHRS - Inside The Heart (Original Mix) [ARTCORE Records]

A driving force in the techno scene, Spanish producer and DJ Ramiro Lopez has shaped a sound that encompasses techno, acid, urban and even Flamenco, as seen on this standout new release to make his debut on ARTCORE. Accompanied by tracks from an exciting producer from the UK called Tobias Paul, the alias of established house producer Curbi with his take on groove laden techno – the brand new 4 track release will be out on the 17th July. 

Ramiro Lopez makes a welcome to the ARTCORE stable bringing with him esteemed Flamenco guitarist, Miguel Clemente and Andalusian vocalist, Belén Vega. “I had the idea to create a fusion of styles, bringing authentic flamenco vibes into the world of electronic music” adds Ramiro. Both Miguel and Belén are deeply rooted and respected within flamenco tradition, creating something for the open minded and experimental.

Commencing with ‘Ay Candela’, the EP’s opener brilliantly matches the vivid intensity of flamenco with the brooding energy of techno. Whilst pounding, pacy and fierce in parts, Lopez and Paul have made certain the vibrant Latin influences of the tracks Spanish collaborators shine blissfully through the beat’s otherwise heavy, brooding ambience. 

Two tracks on the release are from Tobias Paul, the techno alias of esteemed house producer Curbi. Carving out a groove laden techno sound, this will mark his 3rd release to date, opening with ‘Brazil’, he quickly gets to work delivering a high-octane but obscure concoction of fizzing, whistling effects aside rolls of simmering snare. A chopped vocal bounces in-between thick bass tones and warping synth climaxing with a plume of whooshing melodics and final frenzy of lyrics.

The stringed brilliance of Miguel Clemente and soaring vocals of Belén Vega again take centre stage on ‘Solea’. Following a series of bell chimes comes a deep, galloping percussion and snare combo before a chorus of impassioned vocal lines ring out emotively across slamming cymbals, grumbling melodies and restless, fidgeting hi-hats. 

‘Poseidon’ is an ice-cold solo effort. Doubling down on the visceral potency that fuels much of ARTCORE DUO V, the beat possesses a diligently crafted groove that swirls aside militant drum rolls, pulping rave motifs and hollow tones to close the EP in a shadowy, low-key style.

My debut release - raw acid techno born from sleepless nights on the Bristol harbourside.

Produced in the first weeks of moving here, this track channels the surroundings of my new doorstep. This track channels the murky harbour water, a ship-like horn, and a voice that cuts like a siren through fog. Stuttering vocals, heavy low-end, and classic 303 acid to carry you into a place that’s part rave, part trance.

This one’s for the heads. Turn it up, dive in.
