The river water is slowly creeping its way up the bank. By the shore, a young bee is chewing its way out of a stalk of tall grass for its first peak at the sun. On the ground a tiny clump of dirt tumbles as an iris sticks its sprout upwards. The crisp wind carries the moisture from the exposed earth into the air. You can smell the decay of old and the sharpness of the new. Nothing matches the delicate physicality and the rising spirit of spring quite like the sonic habitat of MPLS mainstay Kiisu aka Niki Kitz. 

After releasing an otherworldly full-length album "Mother of Dirt" in December and an emotional self-release "Spiraling" in February, she turns her attention to her record collection. In this recording, she guides us on a journey of textural exploration, contemplative drones and curious experimental electronics. Be patient, and you can see the flowers grow.

For our next trip Down The Stairs, we return much closer to home (well, it is home for 1/2 of 2Sox) and are ridiculously delighted to bring you 1/2 of Inverness club night, mix series, digital label, online premiere maestros AND previous DTS guests - Hypnotic Groove! ( @hypno_groove )

Andrea ( @andrea-gilbert-mac )has been at the forefront of pushing a wide spectrum of electronic music from her Highland base for a number of years. Whether it's the fabled, sweaty, Inverness club nights, guest mixes on Rinse FM or pushing brand new music via premieres, Andrea's finger is always on the pulse.

So, it goes without saying, inviting her to go DTS has been on our radar for a fair while (aka too long).

For this trip, Andrea puts the pounding techno largely to one side and focuses on a more 2020/21 appropriate sound, with a delightful journey guaranteed to make you drift, relax and think of good times gone and ahead. With a fair nod to those aforementioned sweaty club nights towards the end of the mix. A much needed and enjoyable shift in direction for the DTS series in general too.

This one is a little bit special - Orlando Voorn remains one of the most significant producers and dj's of a generation having released a sprawling catalogue of material across almost thirty years. In the 90's his focus was placed on techno and purpose built club tracks, this is perhaps what he is best known for. However, in between this there have been explorations into IDM, House and beyond with endless monikers fulfilling his creative aspirations. The Living Room, Format, Fix, Baruka and The Nighttripper are but to name a very few. 

Orlando Voorn played a pivotal role in the emergence of Detroit techno in Holland - he pioneered a sound which evolved in the underground communities of the US and helped bring it to life overseas. Collaborations with the likes of Blake Baxter and Juan Atkins cemented this further. 

In the present he remains an unsung hero of the underground, still furiously releasing music at a relentless pace. His latest outing is on Kompakt and showcases his longstanding relationship with old school electro and Detroit techno in fine form. 

We invited him to record a mix for the site, it's blistering and fast paced straight from the off - you have been warned.
