Duro is honored to present the birth of the “Baba” brotherhood. During the last pandemic year, Rina traveled from Tel Aviv to Portugal, where he met Switchdance. After some trips around the beautiful city of Lisbon, plates and plates of hummus and samosa, a visit to pick up raspberries at a field that used to be a medicinal cannabis farm and lots of hours in Switchdance's studio, 'Baba Music Vol. 1' was alive.

The journey initiates with the Portuguese version of "Give Way", a cut that narrates the moment when you are in a high state of mind and try to describe the process to get back to reality. For this version the duo worked with vocalist Abrão, where a deep and resonant bass, a synthesized voice, electric and acid melodies, and distant pads run through the space. It’s followed by the Hebrew version of "Give Away" where Rina takes control of the vocals. 

"Reak" means "empty" in Hebrew, the cut refers to a state of consciousness where there is nothing in the brain. Playful percussion, acid basslines mixed with digitally distorted synthesizers create the sensation of breaking out reality, an experience blended with algorithms, binary codes and atomized sounds where it is hard to distinguish the realness. A roar to all the Babas around the world to gather on the dance floor. 

To consummate the brotherhood with an embellishment, master Jonathan Kusama came up with two versions of "Give Way". The first one is a futuristic and dystopian dub masterpiece, with distorted bass lines, shady vocals and liquid percussion. For the second version Kusama brings up the energy and keeps the bass flickering and harsh, mixed with mind-bending and unhinged synthesizers.

Darkroom Dubs returns with a little late-night disco dissonance. It's time for some ‘Unstable Harmony’.

Following a brief hiatus - during which the label has been preparing for its forthcoming 20th anniversary - Silicone Soul’s longstanding imprint strides into 2022, fashionably late with this powerful label debut from Günce Aci.

An unstoppable tour-de-force from Istanbul in recent years, Günce has been weaving between the genres, joining hypnotic dots in the darkest shadows of house, disco, indie and electronica on labels such as Nein, Ombra International and Spectrowave. Now she lands Darkroom Dubs with two blisteringly fresh originals that defy categorisation.

‘Unstable Harmony’ sets the pace and tone. A bulbous bassline pushes the message with urgency in a way not dissimilar to Black Strobe. Laced with dark disco nuances and an unfaltering groove strong enough to melt concrete, don’t be fooled by the title: this guarantees the sweetest of dancefloor harmonies. 
 
‘No Longer Human’ increases the feeling of unease and tension with a lingering groove that lurks and raises in weight and momentum but never peaks. The perfect transition track or palette cleanser, Günce’s broken beats, insistent bassline and spiralling musical elements can disarm a crowd at 20 paces. And will do for a long time to come.

Stay tuned as Darkroom Dubs have plenty more to drop throughout 2022 from old friends and new. Expect beats from new signings Alvaro Cabana & Fargo Devanti and Abel Ray, plus the return of Undo, Amount and Am$trad Billionaire. It's going to be a long, long, hot summer, even in the darkest of rooms.

Italy via Shanghai is the route taken for the debut E.P of Neapolitan producer Altieri, aka Eugenio Altieri. A designer living in Shanghai, Eugenio started to make music back in 2004, mixing music and visuals to create his “weirdo production” sessions. After traveling east he founded the DesToys duo, a live project that channelled space disco and 80s commercial music.

Edo is a personal view over the modern Asia, Japan in this case. Inspired by the street sounds and bugged out day to day world of Tokyo his debut EP is four tracks of slippery head music. Chiseled from the deep seams of an intergalactic mine and informed by the dark heart of house and no wave disco this is club music from the oily underbelly.

Serving as an opening statement for Gusik, ‘A Ceremony, Undone’ approaches the prevalent post-millennial themes of emotional isolation, identity and social alienation by way of a diverse and eclectic music selection with consistent and tangible motifs. Through this the concept of geographic boundaries deconstructs itself through the sentimentality of the multicultural artists featured in this work. Not to be mistaken for an attempt to romanticize melancholia, this mix focuses nevertheless on individual concerns above all else, with a subtle bittersweet closure in mind.

Mahkina is the new alter ego of Alex Aguayo, an emerging producer from Salamanca, MX. This time he delivers thru Haunted Space Records the new EP ‘’Fragments’’ (HSR003), a three strong proto-trance tracks EP that shows Alex’s taste for fat basslines and synths.

This issue includes a rave-pick-hour remix from Young Drums and a modern trancey remix by Zombies In Miami.
