Here are some sketches of a few tracks that will appear on our debut album - 'Leodhas'. These in particular are part of the Suite of Pieces being written for Lancaster Jazz Festival 2015. All these tracks have already changed drastically so you never know what they'll sound like in the finished product ;-)

Local Recall (a 42nd Street Project with Unity Radio and Open Music Archive) used material from piano rolls from the late-19th Century in contrasting modern ways. There was a DJ Set involving a youth programme, a solo piano work by Serge Tebu, a duet work piano work by Calum and Liam (of Nodha) and finally an audio-visual work featuring a live soundtrack by Graham Massey (808 State)

This excerpt of the piano performance was guided improvisation using the piano roll material as short loops. Calum & Liam then used the material to work in and out of phase as well as allowing the work to travel elsewhere.

Afternoon concert in a cool coffee shop, during Lancaster Jazz Festival 2015. Calum had been commissioned to write this work by the festival as the Youth Jazz Commission 2015.

LJF15 - YJC - Calum Macleod Presents Nodha

Nodha [*Scottish Gaelic - modern, unfamiliar] are a new 3-piece group who link Gaelic traditional music with jazz and electronics. 'Leodhas' will be their debut album.
