The tapes I used to create this piece came from the collection I had when I was younger, and thus have a meaning to me personally. As a result, many of them are nursery rhymes or narrated stories. Some of the tapes I used had trouble playing back correctly as they have been overplayed and have lost their quality with age. However, these are the ones I was most interested in, as they represent a direct change from how I remembered them.
I listened through to numerous tapes, choosing which parts I wanted to loop and found sections of interest. I made some of the loops the standard length of 23.5 cm (4.9 seconds) and some of them as chandler loops of 37.2 cm (7.8 seconds). For 2 of the loops, I spliced together sections from three different tapes into one loop.
