Novo Normal is an acousmatic composition that investigates society's "new normal" way of life post social distancing guidelines implemented as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic in March 2020.  Novo Normal is comprised sounds gleaned from human activity that increased or decreased as a result of the epidemic.  The orchestra include shopping carts, intercom warnings, Covid-19 commentary news commentary, skateboards, the sounds of transportation, and the feeling associated with being present in the only open stores, supermarkets, while wearing a mask and maintaining a 6-foot barrier around us.  As we enter the third month of Novo Normal, while in public we avoid human contact; the foundation of human existence and what people are craving most.

I grew up forty miles from the border of Mexico in Las Cruces, NM and the border region, its people and the geography has been a very important part of my life.  The turmoil, negative propaganda, demonization and stereotypes about the border have informed this piece with their erasure as an ultimate goal.
