OMFG! NYE 2K19: Worlds in Ashes

HAPPY 2019 feels family! We're so happy to start the new year off with another episode of no feels & this time we brought our boy Zephure along for the mix. As always, we asked him 3 questions regarding his feels below. Thank you all for the support, sit back and enjoy this mix blessed by Zephure. <3

Q. What's the meaning behind your alias "Zephure"?

A.  So the name is an alternate spelling of Zephyr, the greek god of the west wind. When I was a kid, the first video game I ever owned and fell in love with was The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I was hardcore obsessed with that game haha. It definitely shaped my taste in video games for the rest of my life. But more importantly, I fell in love with the soundtrack from the game. It was the reason I chose to learn the violin, and that led to me falling in love with writing music later in life as well. So in the game, Zephyr gives Link (the main character) a magic conductor’s baton that allowed Link to control the wind, and it’s a major turning point in Link’s destiny for the rest of the game. In that same sense, the name Zephure was meant to mark a turning point in my journey in music. And just like the wind, my goal is to carry you someplace else with my music.

Q. Where do you see Electronic Music going in the next 5 years?

A. I believe that in the next 5 years, we’re going to see a bunch of new changes to electronic music. First, I think that house music is on a new comeup right now. I have a feeling that we’re going to see a lot more house DJs on the mainstage of festival lineups in the coming years. Next, I think that the “experimental” electronic music that we are hearing right now is going to have a big break very soon. The people really pushing the boundaries of sound design and what-sounds-can-be-used-where are the ones we should be paying close attention to in the next few years. Lastly, I think we’re going to see a resurgence of emo and alternative music from from the 2000s, and producers blending these elements with electronic. Maybe this is just me hoping a little too hard but I really want to see this happen soon. I’ll be playing around with this myself, but I’m also very excited to see what other producers can do with this as well. 

Q. What are you looking forward most to this year (In regards to anything in life)?

A. I’m most excited about finally graduating college and moving out. I’m excited about having control over what happens to me next. I’m finally going to be able to spend a lot more time on music, and that in itself is the best news possible. Be on the lookout for all of those originals I’ve been trying to release for the last two years to finally get out there this year.
