Nesa Azadikhah (1984) is a Tehran-based DJ, music producer, composer, sound artist, and musician. She started by playing Tonbak and Daf at the age of six to DJing at the age of sixteen in underground dance circles, she has established herself as one of Tehran’s most in-demand electronic music and sound artists and composers around. 

“Tanif-e Eshgh” is the result of her experimentation with sample technique on a famous traditional Persian music piece.

دنیز تفقدی هنرمند صدا، نوازنده پیانو و آهنگساز و هنرمند بینارشته‌ای، تحصیلات دانشگاهی خود را در مقطع لیسانس موسیقی در دانشگاه هنر و معماری در تهران آغاز کرده است. او همچنین دوره کاری خود در زمینه موسیقی را با فراگیری ساز پیانو در سن شش سالگی شروع کرده است. او به طور معمول با هنرمندانی از رشته‌های گوناگون همکاری می‌نماید، موردی که شامل اجراهای نمایش، بازی‌های کامپیوتری، چیدمان‌های صدا تا پروژه‌های مربوط به اجراهای رقص معاصر می‌باشد. او همچنین از سال 1399 یکی از اعضای گروه دونفره «زیرو وان» (پروژه دو نفره موسیقی الکتروآکوستیک فعال در تهران) است.

Iranian sound artist, pianist and interdisciplinary composer, Deniz Tafaghodi (1997), studied B.A in Music at Azad Art & Architecture University of Tehran. She started her career in the music field by learning piano at the age of six. She frequently collaborates with artists from different disciplines ranging from theater, computer game, sound installation to contemporary dance projects. She is also a member of Zerone Duo (an electro-acoustic duo based in Iran) since 2018.

مهرناز خرمی آهنگساز قطعه‌های الکتروآکوستیک ساکن لاهه (کشور هلند) است، مهرناز متولد شهر تهران است. او هم‌اکنوم در کشور هلند، و در موسسه سونولوژی به عنوان آهنگساز پروژه‌های «اینترنودال» و «جیراف استدیو» مشغول به فعالیت و تحصیل می‌باشد. مهرناز فعالیت هنری خود با محوریت  طراحی چیدمان‌های صدا و اجراهای صدا و تصویر به حالت متمرکز در آورده است. او دوره کاری حرف‌ای خود را با در پیش گرفتن تحصیل در رشته‌های هنر تجسمی در دانشگاه سوره و تاریخ سال 1392 آغاز کرد و پس از آن در نقش نوازنده ویولن در کنسرت‌های متعدد و همینطور به عنوان هنرمند صدا در نمایشگاه‌های هنر متفاوت و نمایش‌های تئاتر و چیدمان‌های مولتی‌مدیای گوناگونی شرکت داشته است.

Mehrnaz Khorrami is a Den Haag (The Netherlands)-based electro-acoustic composer, Mehrnaz was born in Tehran-Iran. Currently, she lives in the Netherlands, where she is studying at the Institute of Sonology at The Royal Conservatory and working as a composer at the InterNodal and Giraf studio. Mehrnaz focuses her art practice on designing sound installations, audiovisual performances, and live Electroacoustic improvisation. Mehrnaz started her professional career by studying fine art at Soore Art University in 2011 and so far has been Violinist in several Concerts, and sound artist in Art exhibitions, theatre shows, and multimedia installations.

آناهیتا عباسی (متولد ۱۳۶۴) در شهر شیراز به دنیا آمد و فعالیت خود را از همان شهر شروع کرده است. او در سال ۱۳۷۶، برای دنبال کردن مدرک کارشناسی خود در دانشگاه هنرهای اجرایی و موسیقی گراتس به اتریش نقل مکان کرد، دانشگاهی که در آن به مطالعه هارمونی با کلمنس گادن‌اشتتر و کریستیان اوتس پرداخت؛ همینطور دوره درس هارمونی را هنگامی که همکاری نزدیکی با با ژرژ اپرگیس، «فرانک بدروسیان» و «فیلیپ لرو» داشت، با «بئات فورر» و «پیرلوییجی بیلونه» گذراند. او از سال ۱۳۹۵ در سن‌دیگو آمریکا زندگی می‌کند و هم‌اکنون در حال تکمیل دکتری آهنگسازی به همراه استاد راهنمای خود «رند استایگر»، در دانشگاه کالیفرنیا، در سن‌دیگو می‌باشد.

Anahita Abbasi (world citizen-1985) was born and raised in Iran, Shiraz. In 2005 she moved to Austria and pursued her undergrad at the University of music and performing Arts Graz, where she studied music theory with Clemens Gadenstätter and Christian Utz &amp; composition with Beat Furrer and Pierluigi Billone; while working closely with Georges Aperghis, Franck Bedrossian, and Philippe Leroux. Since 2014, Abbasi has resided in San Diego, USA, and is currently finishing her Ph.D. in composition under the supervision of Rand Steiger at the University of California San Diego.

03 - Anahita Abbasi - Situation IV - Io E IO For Solo Violin

Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi is a Vancouver-based composer-performer who writes for hybrid instrumental and electronic ensembles and performs electroacoustic music. Kimia explores the unfamiliar familiar while constantly being driven by the mechanism of the human psyche. Being also a cross-disciplinary artist, she has actively collaborated on projects evolving around dance, film, and theatre. Her work has been performed in cities across North America and previewed in papers such as The New York Times, Georgia Straight, MusicWorks Magazine, Vancouver Sun, and Sequenza 21. Kimia has recently graduated from Simon Fraser University and will be starting her DMA in composition at Stanford University in Fall 2021.

Confusion and chaos is inevitable. Perhaps it is this urgency for imperfection that allows one to wander, experiment, and discover. As time goes by, one may adjust themselves to the state of lack of clarity and become aware of the silver linings that have long been there.

01 - Kimia Koochakzadeh - Yazdi - A Fixed Mayhem

Action Ensemble is a contemporary music ensemble for improvised and indeterminate compositions. the ensemble is aiming to present and perform music remotely during the present condition of pandemic. Leading members usually invite other musicians among all of the active practitioners of contemporary as guest artists, so see if they want to be honorary members of the ensemble, but the pianist in this ensemble is the lead member that never leaves the formation.

This ensemble will gain insights from the supervision and suggestions of composers like Alireza Amirhajebi, Yalda Ehsani and more splendid artists who have been active in the music magazine. Erfan Dorri (@erfan.dorri ) is the art-director of the ensemble. In this composition, Arpine Israyelian (Piano Improvisation), Sohrab Motabar (Electronics) and Yasaman Koozehgar (Cello) have taken part in the composition and production of the piece.

آنسامبل کنش، انسامبل موسیقی معاصر و موسیقی بداهه و نامعین است. هدف اصلی این آنسامبل در حال حاضر، و در شرایط همه‌گیری بیماری کرونا، ارائه و اجرای موسیقی از راه دور است. اعضای اصلی آنسامبل بنا به فضای هر کار و نوع بداهه ای که شکل میگیرد، در هر کار از یک یا چند نوازنده ی میهان دعوت می شود و همه کسانی که در مجله موسیقی معاصر فعالیت و کمک می کنند، در صورت تمایل، عضو های افتخاری و نوازندگان این آنسامبل هستند. اما نوازنده ی پیانو این آنسامبل خانم آرپینه ایسراییلیان به عنوان عضو ثابت حضور دارد.

این گروه از همیاری و همفکری علیرضا امیرحاجبی، یلدا احسانی و سایر هنرمندان و بزرگانی که در مجله موسیقی فعالیت کردند، بهره خواهد گرفت. مدیریت هنری آنسامبل بر عهده‌ی عرفان دری می‌باشد. در این کمپوزیسیون، خانم ایسرائیلیان برای بداهه پیانو، سهراب معتبر برای اصوات الکترونیک و یاسمن کوزه‌گر برای ساز ویولنسل نقش داشته‌اند.

This piece is composed by "Suicide Twin", an active electronic-music artist from Tehran, who has a tendency to experimental and techno music; he has experience in playing the drums. He has sent this piece for the compilation, which includes a smooth piece, unlike his other compositions that involve industrial and noise music. Name of his music project is an alibi for brinnig up the awareness on suicide, and this can be recounted as an anti-suicide act in this sense.

این قطعه توسط «سویساید توئین» هنرمند موسیقی الکترونیک تجربی فعال در شهر تهران ساخته شده که گرایش خاصی به موسیقی تجربی و موسیقی تکنو دارد و همینطور تجربه نواختن ساز درام را از زمان گذشته به همراه دارد. او برای اولین بار در این فصل قطعه‌ی آرام موسیقی امبینتی را ارسال کرده که متفاوت با قطعه‌های دیگر این هنرمند هست که عموما آمیخته با لحنی از موسیقی تکنوی اینداستریال [صنعتی] و موسیقی نویز هستند. نام پروژه‌ی این هنرمند هدف آگاهی رسانی درباره‌ی معضل «خودکشی»، دارد، و می‌توان گفت این پروژه یک حرکت برای اطلاع‌رسانی و جلوگیری از این پدیده‌ی منفی است.

About the piece:
Mmmm-te is result of Collaboration between Amirali Ghasemi & Mohamad Golabi, where Amirali recites one of his poems and Mohammad has arranged and designed an audio environment in which the spoken words can be sensed in an ambiguous yet familiar way.
The experimental poem juxtaposed various vocabulary from a wide range of disciplines and this is what is happening with the Mohamad’s layered soundscape.

مممم - تِ حاصل همکاری امیرعلی قاسمی و محمد گلابی است، جایی که دکلمه‌ی امیرعلی از شعر خودش با تنظیمات و طراحی های محمد در هم می‌آمیزد تا کلمات ادا شده در بستری مبهم و در عین حال آشنا کنار هم چیده شوند. شعر تجربی که دستمایه‌ی این اثر شده واژگانی از عرصه‌های مختلف را بر هم می‌نشاند چنانچه منظره‌ی صوتی لایه‌لایه‌ای که محمد گلابی ترسیم می‌کند، این واقعه قابل ردیابی است.

Arshan Najafi (b. 2001) is a Composer, Sound Artist, Visual Artist and Poet. He started playing the Violin at the age of ten and later decided to study Kamancheh (Persian Spike Fiddle) with  Saba Alizadeh. 
His piece, “Transgression in Common City” for solo Flute was one of the selected pieces for Petrichor Records “Call  for Young Iranian Composers” that led to some private lessons with Chaya Czernowin, Reza Vali, Arshia Samsaminia  and Mohammad Amin Sharifi. 
His pieces have been presented and published by Spectro Centre for New Music, Noise à Noise records, Petrichor  Records, Unexplained Sounds Group, Cold Spring Records and XOR Space. His debut book “Twenty Wrong Turns” was published by Aso Publications in the summer of 2022 in Tehran.

Mohamad Nikpour (b. 1992 Tehran, Iran) is a music producer and Sound Designer. Started his activity under stage name “ZAB” experimentally and self-taught since 2012. His works covers a wide range of electronic music including Ambient, Downtempo, Chill, Noise and Glitch. The main elements of his music are synthesizers and field recordings. He tries to create atmospheric spaces with textures and synthesized samples which are inspired by Iranian traditional music and World music.
In 2018, He started an ambient duo project with Shervin Shamlou called “Sahub Shang”. This name is taken from “Shahub Sang” which in Persian means “Meteorite”. The basic sounds of this project were recorded from nature. As well as focuses on animals and sonar elements of the cosmos. Another project called “Dance of Soul” formed in 2021, which he brings a new wave of samples and rhythms from native Iranian musicians. Also, He launched production services called “Tonal Room” in 2022, that provides services such as Composing, Mixing and Mastering.

Melkor is a Dark ambient - Drone - Cinematic project and the virtual nickname for the man behind the project, Behrad (Brad Fountain), a composer, sound designer, and philosophy scholar from Persia. His previous projects, namely Xigri, Quantomystic, and Exterminatus, with their varied objectives, are currently on hold until Melkor Studio regains its functionality. However, their essence is currently flowing in Project Melkor.

The purpose of Melkor is to demonstrate and declare the existential deepest layers and philosophy of existence in the language of music, besides conceptual and experimental journeys to dark spaces, Blackness, and what defines the origin of creation.

Melkor Studio is a monastery for artists from across the globe who possess a deep inclination towards the nexus of art, philosophy, and darkness, From Philosophy to Music - Deep, Dim, Doom (the dimensions of human creation).

Owrang (Ali Mohajer) is a composer and musician from Iran. He realized his passion for music first by finding himself constantly listening to the music with joy. This passion is the reason for starting his artistic activity for the art and science of music after receiving lessons in the academy. After earning his Bachelor in compositions, he started studying Media. A university discipline that shaped his multidimensional activity, became a starting point to think about new and diverse approaches in Art.

Synchronizing the sounds, frequencies, and notes with the visual elements in addition to using Analog/Soft Synthesizers in the digital media is among his skills. We can refer to a number of participation in the festivals for experimental music in Iran, also working with different [music] publishers on the international level. He has also taken part in the production/ post-production team in this label, he has experiences/ is familiar with the process at independent labels.

Kerman/Berlin – Noise à Noise is proudly announcing the release of Shahab Jafari’s latest album, The Blind City. This Contemporary Classical music album tells the story of a serene village disrupted by a malevolent force, unfolding its narrative through four captivating tracks.

Shahab Jafari (b. 1992 in Kerman, Iran) is a distinguished art researcher and composer with a specialized Ph.D. in art research, focusing on music. He is renowned for his exploration of diverse sounds using elements of Iranian art and reflecting social and philosophical themes in his compositions. His previous releases include Dream, an EP from 2024, and Kowli, a single also released in 2024.

In the creation of The Blind City, Shahab Jafari took on the role of composer, crafting intricate and impactful soundscapes. The instrumental performances include Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, and Cello by Meysam Marvasti, and piano by Behnam Abolghasem. The album was recorded at Arshavir Studio with the expertise of Navid Shahbeiky. Visual elements were provided by Sayeh Parsaei, who handled painting and illustration, while Sepersa managed the graphic design and visual identity. Creative coding for the video teasers was done by Owrang. Finally, mixing, mastering, and overall project management were overseen by Soheil Soheili.

A special thank you goes to Ehsan Saboohi for his initial guidance in the overall development of the compositions, and to the people at Dezhakam Music Academy for their support throughout this project. I also want to extend my gratitude to my music student, Farshad Karimi, for his valuable assistance with computer score notation.

01 - Hello Sun

(re)generations is a sonic archetype for growth. A “Birkinian-Bodleyan” definition of complexity was used:

“Complexity is understood in terms of the quantity, order, and variety of musical elements or patterns”
(Guy Birkin/Sun Hammer “Complexification,” 2015).

Adding in the variables: visual elements*, increase*, and time*; six iterations were generated along one composition, evolving from simple (seed, sperm, spore) to complex (plant, animal, fungus).

Includes archaeological sonic research of a modified Vito Leblanc alto sax (ca. 1980) [body, mouthpiece, and reed] that belonged to Chem XP’s (Chaz’s) late father, Clem Washington. One interpretation of the artist’s moniker can be seen as a portmanteau of his and his father’s names. His father suddenly died when the artist was 15, leaving behind little but an old saxophone from abandoned dreams in Gonzales, Louisiana (along with countless memories). The artist formed a makeshift neck for the saxophone from a recycled water hose, allowing his ancestors to breathe through this project—with the help of a little LFO.

Shahab Jafari is an Iranian composer known for his innovative approach to classical music, blending Persian influences with contemporary soundscapes. His music explores profound themes of human experience, reflecting on social and philosophical ideas. He has recently released his debut album on this label, in addition to his self-published singles and EPs.
This single features the talents of Meysam Marvasti on violin, viola, and cello; Sayuri Shafiei on clarinet; Shaghayegh Sadeghian on flute; and Farshad Karimi on piano. Navid Shahbeiky served as the recording supervisor, while Shahab Jafari and Soheil Soheili handled mixing and post-production. The stunning artwork is by Ojan Shirozhan, and the video material and teaser production were handled by Ali Balighi and Mehrdad Irani.

بيشتر از ده سال هست كه موزيك رو به صورت تجربي شروع كرده و كار ميكنه. سال 2017 اولين آلبومش رو به اسم Exinter the Second world منتشر كرد. همكاري هاي با موزيسين هاي ديگه هم داشته كه در كنار ترك هاي خودش معمولا در صفحه ساند كلاودش منتشر شدن. 
وحيد در زمينه موسيقي فيلم و انيمشن كوتاه و گيم هم فعاليت داشته. موزيك بازي memoranda از كارهاش هست.

از چند سال قبل هم شروع كرده به اجراهاي لايو كه در تهران، شيراز و رشت چند اجرا داشته. در حال حاضر دانشجوي دانشگاه هنر لينز هست. 
همينطور سالهاست در زمينه انيميشن سه بعدي و ويدويو آرت فعاليت ميكنه.

Vahid Qaderi - Pianoise

“01Duo” is working on live audio performances, audiovisuals, installations, game sound design and performance arts. “01Duo” was formed in Tehran, Iran, 2018 by two sound artists Farbod Maeen and Deniz Tafaghodi. 

Farbod Maeen Born in 1985.02.11, Tehran, Iran. Graduated in Power and electricity engineering and interior design architecture. Started his career in music as a Jazz and Blues guitar player with Bahman Nasri in 2001, Composing Music and sound designing for dance performances, theaters, films , games since 2009.

Deniz Tafaghodi Born in 26.08.1997, Tehran, Iran. Studied B.A in Music, Azad Art and Architectures University of Tehran. She started playing the piano since 2003 and composing music and Sound designing for theater, contemporary dance , games, performance arts since 2012.

This quadraphonic piece for two computers and a turntable is made by mixing the pure and processed sounds of locked grooves (the inner groove on a vinyl record in the form of a closed loop, which traps the tonearm and needle, preventing it from entering the label area).
These loops are not exactly the same each time they are played, because of some condition changes(grooves damage, dust,cartridges,needles,etc.)
So this piece will change in each performance, even though it has a specific music sheet in ABAَ form.
The poly-rhythmic part turns into an ambient space, then back to the variations of the first part.

Kamyar Behbahani is an Iranian composer and soundartist from the city of #Shiraz in Iran. Karim Ebrahimi is a musician in the field of traditional Persian music and a player of Tombak, Iranian percussive instrument.

Kamyar Behbahani - Transformation

Shahin Souri a.k.a Rhonchus.(b.1994, Tehran), is a musician. He started learning music on classical guitar when he was 10, he then attended the classes in the conservatory of music in Tehran to learn Jazz guitar, which he later (in 2013) resigned. He then turned to making techno music, his project is called "Rhonchus". He produces both rhythmical pieces and ambient/ drone music under this alias.

Arshan Najafi (b. 2001) is a Tehran based Composer, Photographer and Poet. His first encounter with music was when he started playing the Violin at the age of 10. Six years later he decided to study Kamancheh (Persian Spike Fiddle) with #SabaAlizadeh.
