The theme is the end of quarantine, freedom, and new beginnings. This is our most important summer. We wanted to start with the tender energy of dawn out of a long dark night. The mid-set breakbeats represent breaking the chains of quarantine and isolation. Penultimately, Dubtribe's deeply ambivalent Do It Now still inspires a new beginning for us all, on its 20th anniversary. We hope this mix feels as liberating for you as it was for us to make. Perhaps, like birds at dawn.

We are dedicating this show to our latest release Circus Underwater’s self-titled masterpiece from 1984. Paula Juana is joined by Richard Sales (one half of Circus Underwater) to tell us more about this amazing record. He has also selected the tunes to play for the show!

Echoing the story of a generation that grew up in the 50s and 60s where music was everything, two friends embark on a journey of experimentation which begins in the beatnik suburbs of Washington DC and travels to the heart of hippie San Francisco. The result is an opus that fearlessly blurs the boundaries of genres and embraces diverse influences. Elements of prog, rock, ambient and wave music culminate in an odyssey that seamlessly bridges the gap between the spaced-out creativity of the 70s and electronic music of today.

For months we have been witnessing genocide and violence against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Our community is based on values of solidarity and empathy and we cannot and won’t stay silent. Thus we are releasing under the ‘Transmission for Palestine’ project, native to our home club - Ankali. Our effort is to raise awareness of the struggle and suffering of the Palestinian people. We believe in anti-colonialism and freedom of the Global South from Western imperialism.

After last year’s great EP, released on Shanghai label SVBKVLT, Zaliva-D unleashes a new record in these unreal pandemic times. At its core is a concept of data’s capacity to overcome any boundary, whether that’s physical, digital or mental. 

The material at hand, created after the second European tour, pushes heavily through walls, with bombastically accentuated kicks. Blended with joyous, psychedelic songwriting, it is a testament to the power of music to unite despite involuntary confinement.
