Rebecca Goldberg is a DJ, producer, live performer and designer from Detroit, MI. Since her debut release, 313 Acid Queen, she has been affiliated with the multidisciplinary arts collective, Detroit Underground.

Women in Vinyl Mission Statement: Empowering women, female-identifying, non-binary, LGBTQ+, BIPOC and otherwise marginalized humans working in the industry to create, preserve and improve the art of music on vinyl.

The Women in Vinyl Podcast is meant to enhance and expand what the platform already exists to do, facilitate conversations with those working in the vinyl record industry to educate, demystify and diversify the vinyl community.

Rebecca Goldberg Women In Vinyl All-Vinyl DJ Mix

Rebecca Goldberg is a multidisciplinary artist from Detroit who combines her skills in the musical and visual arts to craft a lane entirely of her own. For this release, she invites her friend Jon Dixon to join her and the results capture each of their signature sounds, weaving them together into something new. 

Rebecca met Jon in 2017, and was responsible for designing the artwork on Jon’s 4evr 4wrd label releases. This led to Jon showing Rebecca around the keyboard so she could learn how to play the theme from Westworld. Eventually, after a few years, she decided it was time to suggest they collaborate on some music. The result of that collaboration is the track “Our Morning”, which is now being introduced into the world on this very special release. 

Kicking off with hazy strings and a broken 909 beat, “Our Morning” creates an atmosphere of anticipation. As elements are added the tension builds, with melodic snippets slipping over and under one another. Acid tweaks slowly start to intensify, ushering in an explosion of pure hi-tech soul at the track’s peak. If sunlight breaking through clouds had a musical accompaniment, this would be it. Jon’s melodic and harmonic sensibilities mesh wonderfully with Rebecca’s machine groove, splashing the dancefloor with optimism in these trying times. After that release, the come down is handled elegantly, bringing reality slowly but surely back, while we bask in the warm glow of the journey just completed. 

Music this special deserves a special presentation, and Rebecca’s devotion to creativity in all aspects of her work shines through here. An excerpt of “Our Morning” is etched into a 5”x7” flexidisc postcard that you can play on a turntable, which features the work of local photographer Ryan Southen. The Ambassador Bridge stands in the foreground, connecting Detroit and Windsor, with the cities lurking in the back. The postcard is limited to 250 numbered copies, and purchase includes a high-quality digital file download of the full track.

Sindhi Curry aka Pramod Sippy started his musical journey at an impressionable age 
of 14. His foray into DJing began with terrace parties and impromptu gatherings, 
usually organized by friends. A self-taught DJ, his intrigue led him to continually 
delve deeper into the artform, perpetually striving to understand it better. Over the 
course of a musical career spanning more than two decades, Pramod has held multiple 
residencies and performed across the country. During this journey, he has moved 
seamlessly from tapes to CDs, to consoles, to vinyl, of which he is a true practitioner 
with a growing collection. 
Pramod has been an integral part of the entertainment industry, notably as a co-
founder of The Bombay Elektrik Project and The Hive. His work was crucial in 
building the foundation for culture centers and movements in the country, providing 
platforms for upcoming talents to showcase their skills.
Sindhi Curry’s sound is a true testament to the diversity in music and its evolution 
through time. His style of music today is influenced by Chicago-House, Disco, Funk, 
Soul and Detroit Techno, amongst a vast array of genres. The atmosphere that he 
seeks to create can be best described as fresh, warm, and infused with funky grooves 
and cosmic sounds.
Till this day, one of the pillars of the foundation of his musicality has been his 
characteristic openness to all types of music. His knowledge and experience 
combined, is something that keeps him evolving as an artist,

Scotia Birdsey aka Scotia is an Upstate NY-based DJ with an active presence in queer nightlife in the Hudson Valley and Capital Region of New York. She returned to dance music and DJing in 2022 after a decade of dormancy, previously hosting the Capital Region party Outpost1, where she booked producers like MikeQ and Doctor Jeep at the initial blooming of their careers. Those two names are appropriate reference points to describe one of her typical sets - cunty and spacious. She has spent the majority of 2022 starting from the beginning once more, DJing any and all opportunities available to her – playing nearly 100 parties for the year, and along the way becoming a co-resident of the Hudson-based Community Rave Network.

Notes on the Mix ///
"I made this mix reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster of 2022 - this was my first year DJing in clubs in ten years, and also my first year being single and dating as a trans girl. I hope that the selection and timing of the toons here can express some of that to others, but also that the awe-inspiring talent of the producers can shine properly! Of course like any mix I do, I couldn't help but indulge in including a few closing sweet treats of nostalgia, like the queer club producer Bamabounce's 2007 Baltimore incantation of Minnie Riperton's Lovin' You! I also am compelled to say that the first portion of this mix feels a bit inspired by the work of fellow XOXA mix creator Sister Zo, whose production and DJing, amongst others, has really helped me rediscover my love for more expressively percussive dance music. I was so totally taken by the Bass and Funky sounds when I witnessed them bloom in the 2010s, and discovering her work this year was the catalyst I needed to bring me back to those sounds."

I've heard/read that it takes time for a DJ to find their style. After spinning live a bunch the past two years and spending time behind the decks, I'm starting to hone in on "my sound." What clicked for me was when a friend of mine was over last night (who is a full-time DJ) ask me "do you know most of your tracks?" I told him I probably know 10% of them, and it's always a surprise when I'm sifting through my library and I re-discover a track that I bought a while back. He laughed and said "Yeah, I mean, you have a very specific sound so I'm sure you can pull a track and mix it in readily."

This set is me finally capturing "my sound." It isn't exactly easy-listening (its more aggressive Electronica), but I love it. I built a crate of 60 tracks and recorded this hour long session, choosing tracks that felt right.
