This week's mix comes from Silent Servant. His prolific output as a producer and artist has laid the groundwork for much of the most ambitious and forward thinking electronic music of today. As a member of the now defunct Sandwell District, he helped force the hand of change with uncompromising ability.

East Wall was an Italian electronic dark wave band started by Fabrizio Chiari (ex keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari in 1982. After a series of demos and live performances, the duo recruited Angelo Bergamini of Kirlian Camera to help with arrangement and synthesizers. They released their debut single “Eyes Of Glass” in 1985 which had huge success in Germany, leading to a deal with ZYX.

By 1991 the band consisted of Fabrizio Chiari (Synthesizer, Electronics, Keyboards), Tiziana Wells (Vocals, Synthesizer) and Angelo Bergamini (Synthesizer, Piano, Arrangement). At the beginning of the year, they recorded their next batch of songs at Prominence Studio in Cremona and A Love Sound Studio in Piacenza. "Silence" was self released by the band in 1991.  The lead track “Silence” was a left-over song by Kirlian Camera recorded in 1985 with vocals by Simona Buja under the alias Lorenza Larini.  It was recorded largely using a variety of now-classic Roland, Yamaha, and Oberheim synthesizers. 
The album displays East Wall’s maturity and unique aesthetics, with instrumental pieces reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti’ Twin Peaks score.  Tiziana Wells
sings with pure emotion, hypnotic at times, upbeat and carefree at others.  Frankie Teardrop (of the Wierd party and the Systems of Romance blog) describes this album as "possibly the closest thing to darkwave freestyle that exists.” We decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double LP cut louder at 45 RPM. We have also included an unreleased extended version of “Ice Of Fire” and the bonus track “Intro”, found on the DAT tapes Fabrizio Chiari sent us.

All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. It is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by Andrea Gambetta. Each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Intergalactic Gary, who’s Despair Mix turned us onto to this album.

East Wall - Silence

Back in 2000 the Greek artist Sawf got into electronic music. He bought a synthesizer and a drum machine and started experimenting with sounds, setting the ground for his unique and raw style. Ιn 2011 he released his fist album “Flaws” on the UK label Perc Trax followed by several Eps on the same label.
Through the years Sawf has released numerous eps on labels such as Audio Assault (Netherlands), Prosthetic Pressings (USA) and more as well as  Greek record labels Kafta, Vanila,Modal Analysis.His latest release for 2016 is a track named "Imitators Sleep" in a cassette compilation on Phormix.
Together with fellow Greek artist ANFS, they have formed a project called Vofa counting two releases on Vanila and Pi Electronics respectively.
In 2016 he launched his own record label called KAFTA with a colorful ep, Ms Roxanne, consisting of 4 tracks by Sawf.
As a DJ, Sawf moves in many different directions, all with his distinctive industrial techno mood. His DJ sets differ from one another in style but as with his productions, his edits or reworks, all have this characteristic hypnotic feel to them.
Sawf is the great manipulator, he can make you lose control and take your body and soul for a ride.

Randstad is the DJ and production moniker of Thomas van Linge who is one of the three minds behind the record label BAKK from The Hague. The currently London based artist also extends his practice to the visual realm and has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe. 
His record label has collaborated with local strong arms like Bunker Records / Panzerkreuz and Intergalactic FM and have released music by Legowelt, SFV Acid, Aurora Halal, MGUN and many more. BAKK is also launching it’s second ambient record in the Plafond Series soon. Randstad’s debut release will be on a V/A with Rotterdam’s Common Thread label in the near future. Be on the look out!
