OTHRWRLD is a trans performance artist, music producer, DJ, and self proclaimed aural apothecary, using sound and atmosphere to open portals into new utopian possibilities for posthuman club creatures to experience collective immanence and healing.  Equally likely to find her sweating behind the decks at a late night warehouse rave enshrouded in fog, or sitting peacefully weaving textures in a dimly lit chillroom, othrwrld sits on the cutting edge of trans futuristic music, channeling ritualistic rhythms from hypnotic ambient techno, trance, bass, breaks, and progressive groove, to slambient mind journeys, soundbaths and deep dubbed out dancefloors.  

othrwrld has called Portland Oregon home since 2017 and has cultivated a strong relationship with the local nightlife/dance music community, while always pledged to prioritizing the queer underground.  In 2023 she started her own immersive event/mix series "Club Liminal" a left field ethereal techno party for fellow trans futurists and all who yearn to rave on the edge of reality.  

With releases on Canadian labels OBSKUR and PPRZ, and a new EP titled "Divine Summoning" released Dec 2024 with Los Angeles label Delusional Records, othrwrld continues to add to a growing catalogue of ever evolving and genre bending work

Jake Muir is a Berlin based sound artist, DJ and field recordist. He approaches his practice as a listener first, carefully curating, layering and processing sounds that help him deconstruct and contextualize his lived experiences and influences. Using investigative software methodologies, DJ techniques and engineering dexterity, Muir makes deeply personal sonic art that fluidly traverses genre membranes, encouraging reflection and sometimes prompting psychedelic states.

This mix is essentially a studio distillation of the two DJ sets I played during bathing hours at Washington Baths in Portland, Maine last year, for @poolemusicltd. Beyond the aquatic aesthetics tying back to saunas and my time spent living in California and Seattle, it is also inspired by an essay I discovered while trying to find cover art for Bathhouse Blues. “Spiritual dimensions of self-transformation in Sydney’s gay bathhouses”, by Jason Prior and Carole Cusack, explores how gay bathhouses were viewed as places of worship by the patrons and what transpired there as being “rituals”. Given this backdrop, there are various references in the mix, both literal and figurative, to said dimensions associated with rituals and spirituality.

The in-demand US DJ unfurls dubby, dance floor poetry.

Where does sentimentality fit on the dance floor? For Liv Klutse, AKA livwutang, the answer is everywhere. The New York-based DJ is guided by a deep desire to stir connection, finding themes and points of correspondence across an impressively broad range of sounds, tempos and eras. 

This emotional intuition lends Klutse's sets a depth few others can match. Her selections can seem unpredictable, rooted in an appreciation for feeling over genre—hard and soft sounds are carefully balanced with surrealism and bursts of nostalgia (for instance, the Lazy Dog bootleg edit of Everything But The Girl's "Tracey In My Room"). But as versatile as she is, a few signature traits colour her style, such as a love for dubwise music and rhythms from across the Black diaspora, alongside a refreshingly introspective energy that invites dancers to find moments of meditation—even during peak time. 

A former staffer at our New York office, Klutse has long merited an RA Podcast. Her slow-burning blends and mystical selections have graced near-enough every major festival and club out there, from Dekmantel and Sustain-Release to Nowadays, where she's been a resident since 2022. Despite this cross-continental touring schedule, she still plays plenty of grassroots venues—testament to her days with TUF collective and Orphan Radio in Seattle, as well as her enduring belief in the power of DIY, community-orientated dance music. 

"How did you come down off life?" James Massiah asks at the beginning of RA.975. Across nearly 90 minutes, Klutse's downright beautiful mix seeks answers to this question, reflecting on hedonism in times of political decay. She's in full-on dub mode, moving through meditative bassweight, glitchy house and flat-out weirdo techno with a deftness we've come to expect from one of the most promising, singular voices in dance music right now. She's got there all on her own terms—and we couldn't be prouder.

othrwrld’s set on Thursday at Club Membrane moves like a slow exhale, hovering in that liminal space between movement and stillness, structure and surrender. Low-end freq rolling steady, percussion flickering at the edges, melodies stretching into the membrane. A slow unraveling, a gentle pull into something deeper.

Bootleg, edit, remix, re-edit, re-fix, all are essential tools in any DJ's toolkit. There's one singer in particular you're more likely to see on those white label 12" records or haphazardly named .mp3 files though, Brandy Norwood. So much so that it's basically turned into a running joke, with ScratchaDVA proposing the truly terrifying idea of her waking up one day and coming for the royalties she'd be owed from so many UK producers. It's not just the United Kingdom though, a combination of her once in a lifetime vocal prowess, as well as a major record company that was very liberally pressing up acapella mixes for DJs in the mid to late 1990s, leads to her being sampled by producers all around the world.

This mix highlights three decades worth of unofficial remixes from the singer, spanning a myriad of styles and sounds, collected over the course of about 4 years. I ended up sifting through a good 300 or so tracks, as well as created some of my own edits in the process. Needless to say, the task of trying to highlight as many scenes and sounds as possible was incredibly daunting. In the end, at least one song from her 7 main solo albums, as well as bits from Moesha & other TV/Film appearances were sampled in my 93 minute long tribute to the vocal bible.
