The bells of the churches and chapels of São Pedro do Sul (Portugal) are both a widespread and forgotten element of the local religious heritage. "Campanologia Sampedrense" is an acoustic performance in public space by Binaural/Nodar's coordinator, Luís Costa, consisting of a composition for bells rings of churches and chapels of the city performed by young parishioners with instructions linked to the local bell ringing tradition and to the sound perception of the city's urban context.

"Campanologia Sampedrense" is part of the "Campanologias Beirãs" cycle, a project which started with "The city of Matthew: A Viseu Campanology" a co-production of Binaural/Nodar and Viriato Theatre for "Viseu A..." Festival in 2014.

Os sinos das igrejas e capelas de São Pedro do Sul constituem simultaneamente um elemento disseminado e esquecido do património religioso local. “Campanologia Sampedrense” constitui um espetáculo sonoro em espaço público, da autoria do coordenador da Binaural/Nodar, Luís Costa, que consiste numa composição para toques de sinos de igrejas e capelas da cidade executadas por jovens paroquianos com instruções ligadas à própria tradição sineira local e à percepção sonora da malha urbana da cidade. 

“Campanologia Sampedrense” faz parte do ciclo “Campanologias Beirãs”, um projeto que constitui a expansão territorial de “A Cidade de Mateus: Uma Campanologia Viseense”, uma co-produção Binaural/Nodar e Teatro Viriato para o Festival Viseu A… de 2014.

From July, 19th, to Octobre, 19th in 2014, there is a pretty fine sound art exhibiton at the Château d'Avignon en Camargue. Titled 'Le domaine des murmures # 1', several site-specific sound works turn the parc and some of the outbuildings into a pulsating soundscape. In this particular recording, you will notice sounds from different works by Julien Clauss, Emma Dusong, Arno Fabre, and Franck Lesbros, the drone of the water pump from the nearby machine hall as well as the sonic contributions of several unidentified crickets, and, last but not least, the total absence of sound from an installation by Emmanuel Lagarrigue in the machine hall.

I made this sound recording of a frozen lake in the winter of 2005/06 in the area around Berlin. Frozen lakes are known to give off most noise during major fluctuations in temperature: the ice expands or contracts, and the resulting tension in the ice causes cracks to appear. Due to the changes in temperature, the hours of morning and evening are usually the best times to hear these sounds. In my experience, thin ice is especially interesting for acoustic phenomena; it is more elastic and sounds are propagated better across the surface. Snowfall, on the other hand, has a muffling effect and the sound can only travel to a limited extent. The ice sheet acts as a huge membrane across which the cracking and popping sounds spread. Underwater microphones proved especially well-suited for these recordings: in a small hole drilled close beneath the surface of the water, the sounds emitted by the body of ice carry particularly well. The most striking thing about these recordings is the synthetic-sounding descending tones caused by the phenomenon of the dispersion of sound waves. The high frequencies of the popping and cracking noises are transmitted faster by the ice than the deeper frequencies, which reach the listener with a time lag as glissandi sinking to almost bottomless depths.

Kubah's forests are pulsing with life, and the soundscapes that can be heard in this national Park are among the most incredible I have ever experienced. This recording features the incredibly powerful sounds of Empress cicadas, along with the melodic song of the White-rumped Shama, and the rhythmic ' te-hoop 'calls of Golden-whiskered Barbets.
