Guest Mixes

Club Malanga, my favorite place in Ibiza, asked me to make a playlist/mix full of new music. I took my bottle of hierbas and visualized I was back in Malanga, with fresh records from the past year.

The mix is recorded with the notorious Isonoe mixer! To get that club feeling, I did the mix in one take with some delay, dub siren and no editing. Big thank you to Manu, Enrique, GUTS, Landry & the whole Ibiza team. I hope to play, dance and discover with you again soon. Big Hug & Enjoy!

"Carrie On" is all about the sweet cascading vibraphone riff that spirals further and further into the dancefloor over a mildly chugging beat, broken only by even sweeter pianos. "Oba Chule" is a much headier affair; loaded with African percussion, densely over-layered with exciting rhythmic switches and folk chants, it's all tied together with a persistent kick drum. "Hamburg's mastering maestro and edit extraordinaire returns to Kojak Giant Sounds, following up his 2013 Roy Ayres edit with this swinging two tracker of groove based delights. On the A-side "Carrie On" bursts out the blocks with tough additional drums and a replayed buzzing synth bassline before settling into a swinging jazz influenced groove complete with rasping sax, off kilter piano chords and warm vibraphone licks. Perfect for the warm up, cool down or simply to switch things up a little, this cut perfectly marries the club friendly bottom end thump with sophisticated melodies. On the B-side, the title track plunges us into the psychedelic swirl of an ancient tribal ritual. Ever changing polyrhythms bump, thump and rattle and the additional synth bass throbs through the subs, feeding the dancefloor frenzy while raucous brass and group vocal chants put you slap bang in the middle of the action. Kiu D joins Feedasoul Records with a beautiful three-tracker. In 'Have You', the Italian-born and raised artist highlights his broad musical influences in a stunning release. Kiu D comes from a background of Drum n Bass, House, Broken Beat and Nujazz. His Dub influences are clearly felt in 'Capture' where a heavy bassline takes centre-stage around a 4/4 rhythm section and spacey keys. The EP title track keeps the momentum going with a deeper, driving rhythm, atmospheric pads and soulful vocal chops that are drenched in reverb for a wider soundscape. Percussion elements interlace with the beautifully-balanced track for that extra bit of movement. 'Last Dream' focuses on Kiu D's more soulful approach to Deep House through driving drums, a heavy rolling bassline and keys and percussion elements rooted in Soul.

JP's music is a fusion of soulful, jackin, and funky elements, and he's collaborated with talents like Thallie and Gramma Funk. He's a dedicated vinyl collector and DJ who has played at renowned clubs across Europe, including Pacha in Ibiza. JP Chronic continues to make waves in the underground music scene and looks forward to future gigs and label showcases.

For our 6th guest mix, 'On The Move' will cross the Maghreb and the Mashreq with Crotch Goblin, DJ, music journalist, and radio host. He shares his Afro and Latin discoveries on his weekly "Chiguiro&Friends" show on Rinse FR, and on his podcast "Terres de Groove" on La Radio du Bord de l'Eau in Switzerland. He also co-runs the label Radio Chiguiro Records, specializing in global electronic music from Colombia to South Africa, passing through Egypt, Peru, or Brazil. Based in Lille, north of France, he has recently co-founded the collective "Broderies Sonores" with Omar EK, a Moroccan producer and author of the EP "Reflets," an organic fusion of his country's traditional music, house, and new wave. Together, they showcase global club music of all shapes, with sounds from the Maghreb and the Mashreq as a common thread. Crotch Goblin delivers here a beautiful example of this fusion, swinging between batida, baile funk, afro tech, club edits, and oriental fusions in a DJ set with no break!
