MORGAN’S JOURNAL : ENTRY 1, DAY 458, MAY 8TH 2076

Midi and I found an empty journal in one of the many collapsed buildings outside town a couple of weeks ago. It’s taken me forever to think about what to write… I still don’t know.  What I hear maybe? What do I see?

There’s birds, wind, water, leaves rustling anxiously in the trees. Maybe I just think they’re anxious cause I am; I suppose the only thing out of place here is me really…

 My name is Morgan, and I’m the last person on earth. 

It seems like only yesterday I woke up to this surreal nightmare. How cliché. Ugh. I’m no writer. But maybe some form of life might find this book after I’m gone and be like, hey look it’s the last person ever, and make a shrine or exhibit out of it, or something, or whatever… 

It’s not all bad; I have Midi to keep me company, he’s about as useful as you’d expect a robotic cat to be for most things (not very). But he’s my best and only friend. Has been since I was little. So long as we find batteries together, I’m never too lonely. He’s also able to detect heat signatures from the servers. Working ones are getting harder and harder to find, but they’re the only way I can use my headset to connect to the Aurel net. I still haven’t seen my family in there though; the Sentient usually kicks me off before I have the chance to explore. Maybe it knows I’m against it. I wonder if that’s why it rejects me…

 It’s weird to say but... the world is so peaceful now. It’s beautiful. Everything just gets along together as humanity’s relics fade into the foliage. 

It’s easy to feel like I don’t matter, but when other people were around, they always told me I never did, none of us did. Ner Nerrr! You’re just a fifteen-year-old girl on an insignificant speck of dust hurtling through endless space... Now that I’m alone though, I’ve been thinking the opposite.

What if EVERYTHING matters. Every single choice, detail, person, and thing. What if it ALL matters and that’s why we’re here, that’s why this happened. 

Well, it keeps me going anyways…

I suppose I should pace myself. My hand is getting sore.
