If he were to be engaged in some kind of martial arts face-off this may be a bit of a problem - he lays his cards out on the table instantly and gives the game away to their opponents, allowing them to mount a counter attack pretty sharpish. However, this isn't martial arts, this is music - right? - and the security that these sounds offer your ears is as fulfilling as a cleansing cotton bud.

Dutch techno veteran Orlando Voorn joins patriotic forces with notable Amsterdam label and distribution house Rush Hour to present his fourth full length album, In My World. Voorn has built a reputation as the key figure to forge links between his native Amsterdam and the techno mothership of Detroit. Voorn's heritage (or the musical kind, as well as the national) means his partnership with the label comes as no surprise – especially as Rush Hour has formerly distributed releases off his Night Vision label, as well as Voorn contributing tracks to compilations by Gerd Janson and Rick Wilhite.

The release features ten original tracks all contrasting in mood; from the ~9 minute-long Mogwai-esque journey of the opening "Turn Left Right Here", to the strange choice of found sounds and samples overlaying an moreish 4x4 beat in the album's closer, "In My World". This track comes up trumps in our eyes, with a groove that grips you from its very outset. Voorn uses these layers cleverly, enveloping listeners in a sound that becomes infectious instantaneously. A proud moment (of many) from In My World's comprehensive body of work.

Private Persons returns with the second release from the Ukraine-based artist Youngg P. All tracks are written in 2014, during the tragic events in Kiev (Ukraine). Between times, these tracks are the beginning of a creative way for the artist!
Youngg P says: «I and millions of my countrymen had very mixed feelings and everyone was on the verge of a nervous breakdown because of the terrible flow of information. Accordingly, almost all the tracks have minor mood, such as "WAR" track generally resembles a military marching. In general, it is such a small soundtrack about this really dark days in country, which tells about the utter confusion and frustration, fear and hatred.

Hypnotic Groove Mix #162 - Softcoresoft

There are plenty of DJs playing hypnotic techno, but few capture this meditative tone as well as Julia Govor. Behind the booth she plays a mix of smooth and deep cuts spanning the breadth of the genre, while her releases offer the same pensive driving quality that likely attracted Ricardo Villalobos to work on a remix for her. 

Govor’s musical background started early in her life. Growing up in Russia she was part of the military band Moryachka, and at the start of her working career she interviewed key figures in house and techno as a journalist at MTV. Once she started writing music, she made a permanent move from Berlin to New York. For a career as a DJ this might seem unorthodox, but it’s probably disconnecting from the city’s intense atmosphere that offers a big part of her inspiration. 

Once she began writing music, she relocated from Berlin to New York City, where she now lives with her husband. Moving from Berlin to a metropolis like New York might seem an unorthodox move, but as she told us, a big part of her inspiration comes from disconnecting from the city’s atmosphere. 

Before she makes her debut at the club on 25th November, we invited Govor to give us a mix and interview feature. For her mix, she sent us back an uncompromising two hour recording of hypnotic modern techno.
