Paranoid Funk

One funny way of making a song!

The other night I was checking out a couple of tracks on Dimitri Frits's cloud (https://soundcloud.com/fingerstyle_guitar) and I took to one of the short songs so much that I wrote some lyrics to it. Here is the tune in question: https://soundcloud.com/fingerstyleguitarist/you-belong-to-me 

I then asked Dimitri if he was interested in hearing my first draft... and he answered the song was not in fact his but an instrumental by Francesco Renzitti he had reposted (they have quite similar pseudonyms, hence my confusion). I was about to message Francesco when I had a nagging doubt: was this in fact an original? It didn't take me long to find out that You Belong To Me actually was an old standard I had simply never heard about (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=berL-80EPmg).

Well, I had some lyrics and my guitar was not far so it didn't take me long to graft simple chords over the simple words.

Here it is, maybe not fully an original (nor very "original" by the way) but I'll nevertheless take the opportunity to dedicate it to my darling wife, Kennou.

Michel Martineau passed away today.

As it happens we were working on a fourth collab. But considering he never got to okay the latest version of the lyrics I'd written for his beautiful track Three-note samba (https://soundcloud.com/michel-martineau/three-notes-samba), I decided to lay some music of my own over them... 

I don't believe in ghosts but I love the poetry in the idea that some departed ones sometimes come back and look at the ones they had to leave behind, wife, children, grandchildren, friends... Surrounding us like three notes of music in the air. That's not exactly what the song was to be about. That's what it is. I wish you could have added just three notes of your own to it too, Michel. But maybe, if I listen very carefully...

My first tango ever. Of course this is more a would-be funny sort of tango (fans of Boris Vian will probably notice a little similitude with "Le Tango des Bouchers"). So this is about death but it's not meant to be sad, take this as realistic dark humour... Or leave it.

Oh, and if you are a tango specialist please don't crucify me, once again, this is for fun, really.

Explorant au hasard les comptes de Soundcloud , j'ai découvert les productions très variées de Peter Bennborn et suis instantanément tombé amoureux de ses pièces pour piano. J'ai donc élaboré sur le titre quelques paroles en français que je lui ai envoyées, il m'a ensuite proposé de peaufiner le tout... Et voilà ! C'est l'expérience Soundcloud... :)
