TILT Brass Band improv - Sak Passé? (2003)

Originally a solo marimba work, horn player Greg Evans arranged "Pascal's Triangle" for the stellar trio of trumpeters on hand. The marimba version is "Part I" from a set of pieces called "Discursive Systems" and was dedicated to and premiered by the percussionist on this concert, Kevin Norton.

Tom Waits - Knife Chase (2002) [arr. D. Ballou]

Track 05 from "Bowery Poetry Club, August '03", TILT Brass' second Non-Site Records "SoundCloud Releases (SCR)" series release. Elliott Sharp's 1998 "SyndaKit", written for his Orchestra Carbon project, is a tour de force of open form composition meant to groove incessantly hard. From the program note:

"The essence of SyndaKit is a transformative groove composed of 144 'Cores' divided among the... players and manifested through processes of imitation, addition, recombination, transposition, and improvisation." 

This was TILT's first of 3 performances of the piece. We had only just begun to learn the process which would be obvious to initiated E# listeners. Regardless, a great deal of fascinating improvisative activity rises forth as only this group of TILT family members could manifest.

"We March" is a deep track from NPG's 1995 release "The Gold Experience." McIntyre's arrangement embraces the inherent "2nd Line" character of TILT's Brass Band and features outstanding playing by drummer Kevin Norton throughout, and killer solos by French hornist Tom Varner, Curtis Hasselbring on trombone, trumpeter Russ Johnson. Attentive listeners may catch a whiff of Kalakuta in the background…

AFKA Prince - We March (1994) [arr. C. McIntyre]

Non-Site Records is a Brooklyn-based independent artist owned and operated media label started in 2010 by Chris McIntyre. Non-Site was formed to document and distribute the myriad contemporary music projects McIntyre participates in as performer, composer, and curator/producer. Its inaugural project, the CD and digital audio release entitled "To TILT: Original Music for TILT Brass Vol. 1" [NSR 001], presents a set of 5 works culled from the group TILT Brass’ repertoire of original works created for its 10-piece Creative Brass Band. "To TILT..." clearly reflects the organization’s direct engagement with New York City's lively composer community, featuring works by Anthony Coleman, Nick Didkovsky, Nate Wooley, Curtis Hasselbring, and McIntyre.

Non-Site joins the SoundCloud community now to offer its "Non-Site: SCR" series imprint. The initial releases on SCR (i.e. SoundCloud Releases) are full sets of live music from TILT Brass' first 10 years of archival audio, beginning with "Debut at Bowery Poetry Club" recorded live at BPC on January 20, 2003. 

Future Non-Site projects include a limited edition vinyl and digital audio release of McIntyre’s "stuplimity series" in Fall ‘13. "stuplimity series" is a set of  four interrelated compositions for various trombone ensembles (ranging from solo to septet) created between 2005 and 2007.
