New York City based multifaceted musician and artist Drumloop releases “Limiting Mindset” on 12” LP on Psychic Liberation on May 1st, 2024.

Emerging from the freezing sea, a winged automata ascends over  Mount Erebus and the ice shelves below. Like an arrow aimed at the heavens she flies towards the atmosphere, caught by gravity's kiss. Held, inches from the interstellar sublime, aching for release. Negotiations with divine emissaries. She's accepted into the twinkling astral entropy of soundless void. Breathless in the endless womb of stars. Phantom echoes of the language of unknown metals. Internal depths exposed, exalted and reabsorbed. Returned, whole and warm. Softly descending. Imbued with ultraviolet, embraced by blue depths, returned to the liquid core. Succor for the oceans of grief.

“Limiting Mindset” is sublime. Closer to a sacrament than an album. A divine transmission intercepted by Antarctic listening stations. I am reminded of the depths plumbed by Porter Ricks, of the tundra cool of Thomas Köner’s solo works, the tapestry of Tim Hecker’s emotional fractals and Autechre at their most interstellar. One could draw these comparisons, but Drumloop clearly inhabits her own unique space. A piercing emotional resonance permeates the entire proceeding. It’s like listening to a conversation between fathomless and private internal spaces with the endless astral entropy that surrounds all things. Each song stands beautifully on its own, while remaining integral to the whole. Transmutation as song. You will not leave unmoved.

Extract from a live sound installation that folds together binaural and hydraulic recordings of the old salt mines and hydraulic systems of the Ricote Valley. Their sonic vibrations are carried via transducers into the crevices of the AADK studio's rock face and its resonant metal staircase. A live improvisation on the rock face with pickups and voice intervenes in the ebbs and flows of these tactile cross-currents.

Creating a new sound installation with field recordings, voice, transducers, light and mirrors, Nichols explored ways of listening and connecting to her local environment and the shifting conditions of the gallery space during her artist residency at Yellow Brick.

Through hydrophone, contact microphone and binaural field recordings Nichols traced the local Kifissia river path and intersecting metro line and navigated the topography of the ancient city’s aqueducts and archaeological parks. Her situated listening practice also extended into explorations of vocal resonance inside Yellow Brick’s interior architecture, in collaboration with theatre artist Kestrel Farin Leah. Yellow Brick Variations weaves these recordings together, creating a dialogue between phonic and topographical vibrations.

This new two-channel sound installation whispered and rang into the corners of the gallery in metallic tones and traversed the space in hums via its fluted polymer partitions. Nichols invited visitors to attune to this tactile sonic space at dusk, creating interactions with the shifting light that casts into the gallery through its glazed walls. LED torches subtly vibrated beams across the space through a magnetic connection with resonant objects, creating an interplay with the incandescent streetlights which flooded rhythmic gridlines onto the gallery’s walls, floors and ceilings.

Human Lessons #112 - XENIA REAPER

Thought as an hypnosis session inspired by the neurophysiology behind the mysteries of sleep stages and its transitions phenomena, the aim is to introduce the listener to an altered state of consciousness where sound frequencies are melted into brainwaves. Repetitive bass lines synchronize rhythmic slow activity, as during sleep-onset, able to induce a hypnagogic state. Higher tones overlap, mirroring the gamma band that evoke inner memories from deeper areas. As melodies and whisperings modulate your thoughts, REM-like architecture sculptures the imagery and the self vanishes. 

<<< You are now entering the “dysvreality”. Chords resonate echoes from a distant time: chaos imposed as order. A frenetic lullaby that has already alienated many, turns dreams into nightmares, forcing the subject to escape. Enchanting atmospheres are invaded by electroacoustic patterns seeking for awareness. Sound robot machines return a sense of control, followed by a dreamy space odyssey. Suddenly, a familiar street sound breaks the wake-sleep frontiers. You’ve listened to that before, in another life… Your life. Lucid dreams emerge by identifying this clue. Metal elements dive into an oneiric soundscape where fear and hope collide. Wandering voices interrupt lucidity, translating you to a confusional arousal. 

As you try to open your eyes, you notice with panic that you cannot move, cuddled by sub-bass and strings. Expecting to feel safe while paralyzed, horns and whistles warn you about destiny. In that moment, you realize that distant reality is, in fact, the present and time is running out. >>>

This set was recorded at “Vanishing Point”, a magical open-sky sleepover that took place in Madrid's surroundings in September 2025. So glad to be part of it, endless love to all people involved. Final cut is added as an epilogue, which I hope completes the story with a special bonus for this HOCast.

Once again, we journey through a deep state of lucid dreaming with this mind-altering live recording from a true legend — multidisciplinary artist Javier Marimon, whose philosophical approach to his craft continues to inspire us across so many facets of life.

"For each live set, I try to prepare a selection of new or reworked tracks that fit the occasion. The invitation to Lucid Dreams was a chance to revisit a time when I used to explore more intimate music—avoiding obvious beats as a reaction to the big city around me, a direction I had gradually moved away from over the years.

Lately, even the depth of nature and silence hasn’t inspired that ‘ambient’ side of me. Instead, it’s given rise to a foggy, beat-heavy aesthetic—full of bass and speed—which I’m still having fun trying to decode.

This time, though, I had the opportunity to merge the last few years into a kind of dream-state sound exploration—like drifting off to sleep while watching a movie or listening to people talk around you. That’s the feeling at the start of this recording, captured live at Espacio Perpendicular using an SP-404MKII, a 1010 Lemondrop, and a multi-stomp pedal.

I imagined deep silence and invisible, horizontal friends as the abstract audience I was playing for. It made me feel like I was in my own room, just playing like any other day. It’s always special to perform in this space."
