Minimal steps

This is the recording of my DJ set at Berghain on sunday morning 6th of February 2011, between 8 and 12am. Deep respect to Stroboscopic Artefacts for having me as part of the line-up, the Berghain crew for being the perfect hosts and last but not least that massive pack of dancing nutters on the floor (especially the Belgian delegation present for the occasion). Thanks everyone, it was fun.

Indianapolis techno mainstay DJ Shiva makes her debut on Different Is Different Records with her own distinct brand of Midwest techno as well as possibly important answers for hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings.

"Hackjammer" is a mechanistic jack stomp through the buzzing wires and fried circuitry of post-planetary destruction, while "Pride Before" throws in some dirty swing and smashing bass to achieve the sonic effect of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.  

Andrei Morant steps up his groove game with a seriously deep take on "Pride Before", stripping down the beats and turning everything into an emotive "sunrise  over the space station" kind of feel.  Or maybe it's a "last day of Earth's existence" feel.  Either way, it's quite nice.

This three-hour raging techno set guided the audience to the most intense and deeper world in the otherworldly main floor of “New Acao”, a gorgeous Showa-era building overlooking the sea.

We are excited to have DJ Hyperactive back on the podcast series with this 3 hour set recorded live from Scene 23.  The event took place on July 26th, 2014 at the Works in Downtown Detroit along side artists Angel Alanis and Deraout from Colombia.  DJ Hyperactive was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side. Rocking vinyl for over 30 years and soon jumped in the studio at the start of the 90s. His early output surfaced on his own imprint, Contact Records, along with releases on pioneering labels such as Drop Bass, Communique, Sounds, Analog, UC and the list goes on. In ‘97 DJ Hyperactive headed west to kick off the opening of Higher Source Records & Gear in Huntington Beach. This move also marked the start of 4 Track Records (now 4trk). After nearly a 20 year run in Los Angeles, he decided to return to Chicago and set up camp again.

After seeing chart topping success of Len Faki’s remix of Hyperactive classic “Wide Open” on Len’s Figure label and the release of his 25HRs in A Day ep with Raiz and Markus Suckut remixes on Los Angeles based Droid Recording run by Mr. Drumcell. Hyperactive’s current focus is set on a list of remixes and the re-launch of 4trk (vinyl + dig). Recent remixes include reworking of “The Word” by Luis Flores on Detroit based Blank Code Records and remix of Impact Unit’s “Silent Steps”. Upcoming remixes list consists of Manic Brothers “Sledge Hammer” on Sian’s Octopus label, Andre Morant’s “Signals”, and co-remix of Beltway w/Submerge both to see release on 4trk!

Tras 10 años de carrera en el trance y numerosos logros, YUTA pasó al techno en 2015, lanzó Liquid Drop Groove en 2016 y comenzó a publicar música en formato digital y vinilo, podcasts y streaming de vídeo. En los últimos años, YUTA ha realizado numerosas giras por Asia y ha actuado en el Quarry Stage de Wonderfruit en Tailandia, en los festivales Equation y Retreat en Vietnam, en los clubes SAVAGE y The Observatory en Vietnam, en Zhaodai y WIGWAM en China, en Acadana en Hong Kong, en Vurt en Corea, entre otros. En Europa, en Gare en Oporto, en aboutblank en Berlín, en KHIDI en Tiflis, etc., en festivales como Modem en Croacia y OZORA en Hungría. En Japón, en Rural y Moment, y en el legendario Future Terror de DJ Nobu. Y la nueva aventura continúa en Colombia, Sudamérica.

YUTA también ha proporcionado mezclas de DJ para NTS Radio en el Reino Unido, Monument en Noruega, Illegal Alien en México y más. Además, solo produce unas pocas pistas al año con el maestro modular O-MA.

Raised in small-town Indiana on a musical diet of 80s synth pop and punk rock, Noncompliant soon found barnyard raves and warehouse techno parties and (as DJ Shiva) quickly became a fixture of the fabled 90s Midwest USA rave scene.

Now, almost three decades and a name change later, she is at the top of her techno game. She was recognized as one of Mixmag's Top 20 Breakthrough DJs in 2017 and has performed at renowned venues like Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Smartbar in Chicago, and DeSchool in Amsterdam. She has also appeared at festivals such as Unsound and Movement Detroit. 

Noncompliant's releases and remixes on labels like Valence, Flash, Outerworld, and Dark Entries have made waves in the global music scene, with her track "Women's Work" even landing on Fiedel's official Berghain 08 mix and his label Fiedeltwo. In 2023, she is launching her own label called Giant Arm, which features her signature style of raw, uncompromising techno. 

At her core, Noncompliant is a die-hard techno fan with a deep love for music and a drive to continue honing her craft as a DJ and producer to share her favorite music with people on dance floors around the world.
