The only thing that keeps my despair at bay is the music and the people close to me. The thought of whether my parents, my friends, are alive is like a snowball with each passing day.
This is not the first track that I dedicate to my hometown, but the first one with pain and tears in my eyes. Mariupol was the city of my future. I gave my whole conscious life to music and in particular to music in Mariupol, because I always knew and felt that I lived in a special and strong city which today the whole world knows about.

If anyone wants to help financially, you can always purchase my music - it will help me and the people who depend on me at the moment to stay afloat. First and foremost, help our volunteers and the military, especially those who are now standing in defense of Mariupol.

У контексті останніх подій дуже складно робити музику, намагаючись не думати про те, що наступна ракета влучить у мій будинок, мій другий дім у Дніпрі. Мій рідний будинок у Маріуполі був знищений після бомбардування російської авіації ще 10 місяців тому прямим попаданням до моєї кімнати. Але я потроху повертаюся до справи свого життя – музики в усіх її проявах.

  Про це знають лише найближчі люди, але все своє свідоме життя я живу з думкою, що моїй появі на світ передувала Перша чеченська. Сім'я мого тата емігрувала з Грозного до Маріуполя, там він зустрів мою маму.

2014-го він пішов добровольцем до АТО, після чого повернувся зовсім іншою людиною. Щоразу сидячи на кухні він твердив мені одне й те саме. Але тоді я не надавав цьому значення. Те, про що він говорив, сталося 24 лютого 2022 року...

In the context of recent events, it's very difficult to make music without thinking about the next missile hitting my house, my second home in Dnipro. My home in Mariupol was destroyed by a Russian bombing 10 months ago, with a direct hit to my room. But I am gradually returning to the work of my life - music in all its manifestations.

  Only the closest people know about it, but all my adult life I have lived with the idea that my birth was preceded by the First Chechen War. My father's family emigrated from Grozny to Mariupol, where he met my mother.

In 2014, he volunteered for the ATO and returned a completely different person. Every time we sat in the kitchen, he would tell me the same thing. But at the time, I didn't pay much attention to it. What he was talking about happened on February 24, 2022...

Naive

Carl has been writing and recording music since 1986 but his first real record involvement was co writing and producing Moments of Inertia by Circle City on Warp in 1993. After a year or so working with Leeds indie band The Bridewells and culminating in an album with them recorded in Roxy Music's studio, he settled down into writing and producing dance music. In 1994 he and DJ Ralph Lawson set up 2020 Vision Records, producing deep house flavours of their own as Wolf and Flow and under his own solo guise of Random Factor, remixing artists from around the globe including Blaze, Josh Wink, Superman Lovers and Fatboy Slim. His solo work is heavily electro tinted, reflective of the Kraftwerk era but owing as much to the likes of Drexciya, Prince, Depeche Mode and Yello. During the mid 90s he teamed up with SCSI founder Daz Quayle and wrote under the name Scarletron and also as Black Labs with two releases on Thomas Heckmann's Trope Recordings around 1995. Working under the names of Random Factor (2020 Vision) Voice Stealer (Subvert) and more recently Silicon Scally (SCSI, Satamile) he has released music on labels including Warp, Fuel, Playhouse, Paper, Trope, Sony, Klang, Arista, Soma, Pagan and Minifunk. He is also a keen remixer in his own right, having reworked tracks by 2 Lone Swordsman, Luke Slater, Swayzak, Dave Tipper and Alexi Delano. 2002 saw the release of the critically acclaimed Mr. Machine album on SCSI recordings. In 2003 the combined EP's on Device Entertainment Recordings were released as the album Electrilogy+ under his real name, Carl A Finlow. Shortly after this release, he moved to Paris.
