Shortening the wait and providing a preview of what is to come, the <i>If These Are The Last Days</i> EP features two stellar album cuts, along with @eliphino and RBMA grad @flako on remix duties. On this day last year, March 6th , 2014, my mother flew away, levitated, we levitated with her. Earlier that year she made a new years resolution. She had never done this before. She had resolved to forgive her self for not being perfect. I mean mamma was got damn close. She was a brilliant mother. She read and work and daughtered, and sistered, mothered and loved her way to freedom, fiercely. Anyone that new “Mrs. Smith,” knew she loved her babies. She taught us the art of love and giving. She was the best black feminist librarian, black freedom lover, team mom, ptsa parent, health advocate, friend, shit talker, dancer, singer….on and on. She fought her way to freedom. Momma, fellow black girl genius, read Toni Morrison, J. California Cooper, Alice Walker, as growing black girl. She made sure sis and I knew love and blackness and womaness and ride or die fierce shit. 

She raised amazing Black daughters and raised so many others. Early last year, she told me in tears that she was making a decision to let the cancer take her life after a long, tumultuous battle. She fought for her daughters. She used to always say, “I’m tryna see my babies live. I want you to be happy. I am doing this for you.”

My brave sister and I looked our 51 year old mother and widow in the face last year, and told her, “it was okay to die. We love you.” I dedicate this “sonic black girl” vibe to my mother, father, and big sister. I dedicate this track to Dr. Ruth Nicole Brown, SOLHOT We Levitate, and the most dopest and humble person and poet, Nikky Finney, for blessing me with the vocals from Nikky Finney’s contributions to SOLHOT Presents: Black Girl Genius Week (BGGW) at the University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign (Nov. 3-8th, 2014). I dedicate this to SOLHOT homegirls, We Levitate (Dr. Beezy, (Queen) Jessica, Pretty Black)), BGGW, black girls and black people , elders, and ancestors everywhere. “Go on, Black Girl, levitate…”
