For the 30th episode of the Non Serviam Podcast, we sat down with Tim Holland, who is better known by his stage name, Sole. Tim is an anarchist, producer, and prolific underground hip hop artist from Portland, Maine. He is one of eight co-founders of the record label Anticon, and beyond making bad-ass insurgent rap music at a professional level, he also hosts a couple shows of his own called Propaganda By The Seed and The Institute for Post American Studies. 

For this installment, we discussed a variety of heavy themes surrounding abolition, anti-capitalism, and our forthcoming post-american future, while also taking the occasional breath to laugh into the void. We explored what it’s like navigating the hip hop world as an anarchist, what it means to be a political radical and a parent, the promise and limitations of back-to-the-land projects, robot dogs, the Garden of EATton, and a whole lot more.

We sat down with Charles Johnson to pick his brain on left market anarchism at Exploring Anarchism, a conference organized by Students For Liberty and Students for a Stateless Society in Norman Oklahoma in 2015.

Charles is a self-described individualist anarchist, a web developer, a left-libertarian writer, a student of Philosophy, and sometimes- teacher of Logic. He is the author of several articles published in magazines and journals, including The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty, Free Voices, The Industrial Radical, and the Southwest Philosophy Review. He is the editor of Markets Not Capitalism: Individualist Anarchism Against Bosses, Inequality, Corporate Power, and Structural Poverty.

For NSP 60 we spoke with Eric King about his time as a political prisoner, including surviving SuperMax, nazi gangs and guards, and how he maintains love, hope, and solidarity. 

Eric King (he/him) is an anarchist political prisoner who is a husband and father of two. He was released from ADX Federal SuperMax at the end of 2023 after serving approximately ten years for an act of solidarity with the community of Ferguson, Missouri after the police murdered Michael Brown. He is the co-editor of Rattling the Cages, a political prisoner anthology, along with Josh Davidson, and is currently working at the Bread and Roses Legal Center as a paralegal.

NSP #65 we spoke with Maggie McNeill about the politics of sex work, censorship, science fiction, and libertarianism.

Maggie was a librarian in suburban New Orleans, but after an acrimonious divorce she took up sex work; from 1997 to 2006 she worked first as a stripper, then as a call girl and madam.  She eventually married her favorite client and retired to a ranch in Oklahoma, but returned to escorting part-time in 2010 and full-time in 2015 after another divorce (this time amicable) and a move to Seattle.  She’s been a sex worker rights activist since 2004, and since 2010 has written “The Honest Courtesan”, a daily blog which discusses sex work, politics, anarchism, philosophy and other topics.  She has also published articles in venues such as Reason and the Washington Post; given innumerable lectures, talks, radio & video interviews; and is frequently consulted by academics and journalists as an expert on sex work.

Non Serviam Podcast #2 - Radical Liberalism with Jason Lee Byas

Clay Zdobylak is an anarchist from Houston, Texas who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and a Minor in Philosophy from The University of Houston. Clay describes himself as a boy with a wooden sword who never grew up — a savage, owing no allegiance but to the King of the Cannibals; ready at any moment to rebel against him. He fits in no boxes but would loosely identify with post-civ, egoist communalism, and playful anti-work utopianism. When pressed on what underlies his social commitments, he may express that he “just wants to go home”.

Like most interesting political thinkers, Clay loathed the authoritarianism of public schools and was nearly a drop out his entire time under the thumb of the Texas Independent School District. He was even punished once for dubiously “inciting a riot”, demanding the freedom of expression his senior year of high school. His childhood may have something to do with the collage of anti-authoritarian uniqueness he embraces nowadays.

Kevin Carson is a senior fellow of the Center for a Stateless Society and holds the Center’s Karl Hess Chair in Social Theory. Formerly a mutualist/individualist anarchist, he now identifies as an anarchist without adjectives. In addition to the classical individualists, he is influenced heavily by theorists of post-capitalism and commons-based peer production, Elinor Ostrom’s natural resource governance theory, and autonomist Marxism. His written work includes Studies in Mutualist Political Economy, Organization Theory: A Libertarian Perspective, The Homebrew Industrial Revolution: A Low-Overhead Manifesto, and The Desktop Regulatory State, all of which are freely available to read on his website kevinacarson.org. Carson has also written for such print publications as The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty and a variety of internet-based journals and blogs, including Just Things, The Art of the Possible, the P2P Foundation, and his own Mutualist Blog.

Before the turn of the year, in Wuhan China, an epidemic broke out that took the world by its grips. They called it the coronavirus, or COVD-19. From China to Iran, to Italy, and even the United States, the virus has taken thousands upon thousands of innocent lives. As global supply chains threaten to fail us, as ordinary people continue to lose their jobs, and with few signs of the coronavirus slowing down, it’s difficult to not feel a bit anxious under the weight of a pandemic seemingly capable of tremendous destruction. What caused it? How can we stop it? To what extent are states responsible for this mess? Can anarchism bring anything useful to the discussion? The slogan for this podcast is “radical voices in precarious times''. It’s possible that this episode captures the spirit of those words better than any other interview we’ve released. 

Dr. Michael Laufer is the first person to appear twice on the show. He’s is the Director of the Institute for Autonomous Medicine and the Chief spokesperson for the Four Thieves Vinegar Collective. Logan Marie Glitterbomb is a writer, Breadtuber, and podcaster under the branding of Green Market Agorist. She’s a Fellow at the Center for a Stateless Society, an agorist, and an anarchist-without-adjectives. She’s also a gun-rights activist, hardcore police and prison abolitionist, a longtime member of the Industrial Workers of the World, a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and a co-founder of the Libertarian Socialist Caucus of the Libertarian Party. She has lived collectively for a number of years, making a living as an agorist and freelancer, while dedicating her free time towards community organizing.
