haiku #378: snowflakes gently fall / cold winter’s pale sakura / I envy the birds

Not as well aligned with the subject as I'd planned, but I took a slightly unusual approach. I recorded myself reading the haiku, then used that as my sole sound source (albeit significantly processed). The result is quite interesting, if not exactly as I'd intended.

Snowflakes [naviarhaiku378]

Vrihi, from Sanskrit "rice," is a sonic exploration on the value of vocality as a bearer of stories.
Multiple voices and granular textures are continuously fragmented, reassembled and juxtaposed into new forms.
Each track resonates with the repetitive, rhythmic motions of manual labor, capturing the tireless
gestures of workers lost to time. 
A unique and rich sound-world recalled by archival recordings and dense sound masses that barely reveal a trace of a body or identity.

Tōge Morita (1924-2013) was a Japanese teacher and poet from Osaka. In the early 50s, he started publishing his poems in the Katsuragi 葛城 magazine, later becoming its editor-in-chief and, in 1990, its editor.
