Six years after his last release on the label, @caldera-caldera returns to Noorden for his second Album ›One Last Glimpse‹ – a step away from his previous club-focused releases towards a more experimental sound.

Presented as a continuous storyline, the album exists in a perpetual cycle of destruction and rebirth that offers a deeper view of the artist’s feelings and perspectives. Rubble-like textures paint a bleak, noisy, and sometimes painful picture that slowly fades away to create warm moments of healing and peace.

Created and compiled in a slow process since 2018, ›One Last Glimpse‹ shows different facets of Caldera’s sound while keeping true to his minimalistic and broken approach to techno.

Like on the first compilation, the Teenage Engineering OP1-synth plays a major role on all 17 tracks – besides other great gadgets like Elektron instruments. We are very happy to have some old buddies on RWB2 as well as some fresh’n’stunning new acts. You all did an amazing job with your tracks, big thanks for that.

They’re sourced from memories of first musical encounters and samples from new age records of Panta’s parents’ collection meeting field recordings, Orffian percussion, and analog machines. 

Reflections on trance, energy, and escapism influenced the album’s production. We dearly hope you enjoy the music – be it dancing or resting.

A most compelling listen, the EP »Fourth Face« finds Ketzer at his most inspired and mature yet, deploying all evidences throughout its course that it indeed is the ripe upshot to a musician’s long evolving, ever-nurturing journey.

Pushing the boundaries of intelligent dance music higher into experimental-adjacent analogue territories, where abstract serenity and complex analogue developments entangle in an organic symbiosis of sorts, Noorden’s newest puzzle in sound comes courtesy of two label habitués, @orion-moustache and @panta-rex. 

Staying true to their genre-unbound DNA and innovative vision, both artists each contribute a trio of oblique sound equations, conjuring up both identifiable rhythmic patterns and off-piste downtempo digressions to shape a grammar truly their own – not quite your usual function-oriented DJ tool, but not floor-opposed either. 

Hybrid and agile, this co-op between Orion Moustache and Panta Rex oozes inspirational spaciousness and ascetic sophistication thru and thru.

Frankfurt based DJ Arno Schäfer contributes the 28th episode of the Noorden mixtape series. Arno stumbled upon our Soundcloud profile, liked the previous mixes and asked us, if we’d be interested in a mixtape by him. And of course: yes, we were! After listening to his recent mixes – for example his KANNMIX, a mix for LACK or the WHITE radiosession together with Edward – we’ve been very curious about what his mix for Noorden would be about. The result is a very danceable 90-minute set consisting of Arnos actual »top very important tracks«. We love it!

Last autumn we came across the »Live at LeBain« recording by Brooklyn based DJ Volvox (@volvox). The energy of her jackin’ powerful acid flavored house and techno sound caught us straight away so we asked her for a contribution to our mixtape series. 

The past months were packed with highlights for the Discwoman (@discwoman) member: Brazil tour, Mexico tour, podcast for RBMA (@redbullmusicacademy)incl. a great interview/portrait you should read, debut appearance on Boiler Room (@platform) - quite an impressive chain of events. She also left notable marks in New York City as co-host of the monthly JACK DEPT. (@jackdeptnyc) parties at Bossa Nova Civic Club (@bossanovacivicclub) and resident DJ at UNTER, NYC’s »best after-hours party« (Grub Street Magazine).

In July/August we finally get a chance to see her live in the DJ booth as she heads over to Berlin and tours the EU.

Next on Noorden is White Afghani (@arian-alexanderr) with his debut release »Kaleidoscope EP«. The up-and-coming producer from Cologne drops a dancefloor focussed five tracker between Leftfield flavoured Breakbeat and Ambient leaning Big Room Techno. 

Munich based Zenker Brothers (@marco-zenker, @dario-zenker) transformed the EP’s Ambient track »Rain and Bliss« into a resonating peak-time-killer with catchy basslines and groovy chords. Top-notch!

[TwelveFive] White Afghani – Kaleidoscope EP (w/ Zenker Brothers Remix)

Leipzig based Nikita von Tiraspol (@nikitavontiraspol) joins the Noorden roster with a »split-tape« asking whether Luficer or Adonis was more beautiful. Is it Adonis on the A-side with laid back but lush beats and powerful breaks? Or is it Lucifer on the B-side with glitchy ambient and floating drones? It’s your call!

Nikita and Alex first met at the Airbag Craftworks warehouse sale in 2018. One year later they met there again and Alex asked Nikita for some demo tracks. Said and done: The demo was great and it took no time till »Was Lucifer more beautiful than Adonis?« was born.

Most of the tracks, formed between 2016 and 2019, are deeply influenced by reading pieces like Dante’s »Divine Comedy«, works by Rumanian philosopher Emil Cioran or various Lithuanian fairytales and produced using mostly analog tools like Elektron Analog Four, MFB Tanzbär, Korg Minilogue or Hohner PSK 45.

In the 51th edition of our mixtape series, Nikita blends his favourite records of 2019’s into something that can best be described as pop. The mix including tracks by Donato Dozzy, Agoria, Jeigo, Vince Watson, &ME, S.A.M., Tim Jackiw, Dusky, Interviews, Kink, Dispo 5000, Zombies in Miami, and Statue was compiled on a warm and sunny day in the garden just before sunset – though it also works on cloudy and rainy days.
