A few words from the artist:
1/ How would you describe your personal connection to music and how it influences your creative process?
Very difficult because my life is very much lived "in music", in that the separations between my engagement with music and the rest of my existence are very indistinct. I need some silence every day to continue. For the rest of it I am pretty much consumed.

2/ As an artist, how do you see the intersection between fashion and music? 
Generally I am not a genre person. This extends to disciplines as a whole as much as it does to genres within disciplines. Every creative outlet is very much a space in which ideas are interchangeable and so on. So if you trained in pattern cutting and you also trained in an instrument then you would be able to work on the same idea in both fields. 

3/ How did you curate this musical sequence/audio journey?
Having said that about genres I wanted to make something that spliced a trip-hop mood and DIY/no wave songs. Trip-wave. A Simply Red dub mix had to be the heart of the thing, everything else extends from this centrepoint.

4/ Three words to define your mix for Études?
Massive Red Area.

Another Barker masterclass.

Sam Barker asks more from techno. The artist known simply as Barker is one of electronic music's most consistently conscientious and curious producers, challenging listeners to question the norms we accept about our shared culture—whether it's the music that fills the room, the process behind it, or the purpose of the space itself.

British-born yet based in Berlin since 2007, Barker forged a connection to many of the city's leading institutions, including Ostgut Ton, and over the course of a long and fruitful relationship, he carved out one of the more singular paths on the club and label's roster.

Not one for orthodoxy, Barker challenged four-to-the-floor techno framework in favor of melodic experimentation. By decentering or completely stripping away the typical trappings of kick drums and claps, his productions are both light and immersive, buoyant in low-end presence and shimmering in weightless space.

Six years after Utility, his sophomore album Stochastic Drift arrives this month. Shaped by pandemic-driven reinvention, it burrows deeper into harmonic twists and freeform drift. "At some point I became conscious of the process," he wrote of his latest album. "The only thing you can do is embrace the uncertainty and see every change as a potential positive.”

Consider his RA Podcast another sequel. Like his much-beloved 2019 mix for FACT, it's a collage of live recordings and a fitting expression of the artist's own internal spring. RA.982 radiates wide-eyed optimism: percussion cloaked in foggy, swirling pads and trance-like chords, neatly synched in synthetic glimmers. 

All in all, it's an hour of music crafted for contemplation, collective euphoria, or heads-down epiphany—or for that matter, any moment, really, its emotive depth seemingly endless.

'Bite The Hand That Feeds You' is the debut EP from Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Jasmín. Blending genres, moods, and eras, it draws on her Dutch-Argentinian roots while channeling the nostalgia of teenage discovery: "that formative era of girlhood where you're growing up online and building your world digitally." Across three tracks, Jasmín explores the tension between this lasting inner world and the harsher realities outside, weaving techno, bass, and dub into percussion-driven music defined by both force and introspection.

canary yellow makes dance music that thrives in the in-between - melodic yet propulsive, intricate yet explosive, delicate yet undeniably physical. On the 'Angel Club EP' for London label Faux Poly, the Los Angeles artist showcases a sound that carries the precision of UK techno & house with the fluidity of American bass music.

The title track is a dark, percussion-heavy breakbeat cut built for deep, focused dancefloor moments that leans on UKG and US influenced 2-step vibes with a low-end pulse and energetic vocals. "Front to Back," created in collaboration with fellow LA producer Next to Blue, is a high energy dub-infused house track driven by a simple, rolling groove and hypnotic chord stabs that create a suspended, atmospheric tension and euphoric release. Rounding out the EP is a peaktime four-on-the-floor reimagining of "Angel Club" that lifts the mood with a lighter bouncier energy while retaining its rhythmic precision and immersive flow of the original.

Since debuting on CloudCore with ‘Waterlily’, his sound has shapeshifted across releases on forward-thinking labels like Tabula Rasa, Daisy Chain, Conduit, and Bitbird. As much a producer as he is a DJ, canary yellow has found himself supporting and sharing the stage with artists who helped shape their vision such as Caribou, Conducta, Jacques Greene, Jasper Tygner, O’Flynn, and Villager and many others.
