The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings finds the label presenting a new installment of its 'Technical Progress' series. Conceptualized in 2010 these various artist showcases have grown into one of the underground's most critically acclaimed series, continually featuring some of electronic music's most highly touted artists alongside talented newcomers. With the eleventh edition of the series landing in March of last year with resounding success, Movement Recordings now presents the much-anticipated twelfth installment featuring exclusive material from (in order of appearance): STEREO MUNK and Dublew, Janika Tenn and Robiin, Andrea Cassino, Lio Q and Nicolas Leonelli, Amir Telem and HEIZEN (ISR), Mayro and Abhishek.

Moving forward in the progressive spectrum, selection five finds Mayro making his label debut. Based in Argentina, Pablo Maneiro aka Mayro has been producing a blend of progressive house, deep and melodic house for the better part of a decade. World class DJs Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Miss Monique and Nick Warren have all taken a liking to his sound, which has found a home on Lowbit, Siona Records and his own Traful imprint. Now adding Movement Recordings to his resume, Mayro debuts on the label with the groovy sounds of 'Panorama'. A dizzying dance floor creation powered by punchy kick drums, crunchy rhythms and psychedelic effects. Packed to the hilt with drama, its adventurous spirit is something Mayro relishes in, as he flexes a trippy side of his studio repertoire.

The latest release from Higher States finds label boss Roger Martinez back in the spotlight with a new EP. With a career now spanning well over a decade, the Dutch artist’s transcendent style has long been a favourite of the world’s top DJs. Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, John Digweed, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sasha have all been steadfast supporters over the years and remain as progressive music continues to evolve. The genre’s most highly regarded imprints have also served as landing spots for Roger’s hypnotizing sounds, with Lost & Found, Replug and Sudbeat sitting prominently on his resume. More recent outings via Days Like Nights and meanwhile have also delighted fans and tastemakers, ultimately leading Roger back to his comfortable home of Higher States with ‘Euphoria / Love Sphere’.

Beginning with ‘Euphoria’ Roger flexes his free thinking muscles and crafts a fantastical journey across a vivid electronic cosmos. Shot in high-definition and full of detail and idiosyncrasies, Roger reaffirms his instinctive ability to tip a dancefloor over the edge, planting multiple explosions of serotonin through spectral synths, haunting chord stabs and wispy effects, before confidently melting down into a stylish interlude. The inevitable zenith of this joyous excursion mounts with shape-shifting layers and charming melodies converging, achieving a rich, enticing timbre over a bed of pulsating beats and fascinating percussion.

The companion piece ‘Love Sphere’ impresses further with its buoyant energy and vivacious storyboard. Warm, full and incredibly fluid, it’s capsizing groove and rhythmic pulses are transcendent, building momentum as hazy melodies delight with their fuzzy charm. Expediting the journey are layers of mesmerizing percussion and trailing effects, uniting for a hypnotizing drawl leading into a cosmic break, which ultimately preludes a groove-centric finish. With some of progressive music’s most memorable tracks already sitting on Roger’s resume, ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Love Sphere’ once again follow suit, landing with style and emotion, setting the course for one of the summer seasons most in demand releases. The undeniable flagship of Renaissance Records, a ReMix Collection is always an event when it lands; so, as festival season begins, and we turn the corner into summer, what musical news could be better?

And it really is news. In keeping with the ReMix Collection ethos of inviting the biggest and best to rework undeniable Renaissance classics, which to date has included Solomun, Tale Of Us, Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Maceo Plex, Patrice Bäumel and Yotto, the label were delighted to secure the services of Gorgon City to provide their take on one of the earliest, most immediate classics - Mephisto’s State Of Mind.

Released in 1992, ’State Of Mind (Quiet Mix)’ was a standout during Renaissance’s formative years at their legendary Venue 44 home in Mansfield. Its classic status was further compounded 18 months later when Sasha and John Digweed included it on the ‘Mix Collection Vol.1’ and introduced it to the ears of the wider world. It was, and is, an Italian house classic, which stands out through its deft piano riff, wobbly female vox and THAT spoken word - ‘music with more muscles’.

Gorgon City’s Renaissance Remix wastes no time with its update. Continuing the style and sound Kye and Matt established with their ‘Somebody to Love’ and ‘Ahora Todo Va’ remixes, the track is a deep, peak time monster that injects bass, an unforgettable acid mid and deep horns to dramatic effect. “We’ve been fans of the ReMix Collection so didn’t hesitate to take ‘State Of Mind’”, they confirm, “the signature parts of the track are legendary. We had real fun knitting them into a tougher, contemporary sound.”
