Title

Title (It Follows, for Piano)

This piece is a programmed, gestural based work created for the score of the multimedia dance work PYLON III. Four dancers had a series of 15 gestures they performed for 70 bars at 110 bpm. I consumed their written score, created 15 rhythmic phrases using toms, taiga drums, timpanis, etc, and wrote a program in Python to concatenate and map these audio phrases to the gestures performed by the four dancers. Each set of gestures over time were panned to the dancers positioning, further emphasizing the dancer as the source of sound.

Nordra is the solo project by London-based artist Monika Khot. She creates her design of the future of pop using an incredibly intense mix of noise, electronic beats, her ethereal voice and various live instruments such as a guitar and a pocket trumpet. Her sound emits the fate and terror of metal even if the traditional instrumentation of a metal outfit is missing. As a film and dance composer, Nordra’s sound world is cinematic nature and her creations are heavily driven by mental states that face fear, torment, hope and despair.

In addition to her solo project, she fronts the band Zen Mother and has been found as a touring multi-instrumentalist with Daughters, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, Cassandra Jenkins, and more.
