Self-reflective, critical, edgy, highly motivated and passionate about music - artist duo, live-act, DJs or simply spoken Kollektiv Turmstrasse reveal their story of success, which has not always been going into one direction only. Christian Hilscher and Nico Plagemann have been a scene’s mainstay for a good 20 years; two decades of intensively working, living, traveling, laughing and arguing with each other or, as the both say, ‘having a marriage-like relationship’. But aside from the all too human sides, Nico and Christian provided the community, the scene with several formidable releases like ‘Abenteuer Alltag’, the duo’s first EP on Diynamic, ‘Blutsbrüder’ on their very own label Musik Gewinnt Freunde, ’Rebellion der Träumer’, their album on Connaisseur Recordings, ‘Sry I’m Late’ or their upcoming ‘RibbonReef EP’, just to name a few. But their discography contains more than catchy chord-influenced potential hits, it reveals what’s most important to them, their relationship, what they enjoy in their time off, the everyday life and situations they experience and also unveil certain gaps in-between some of their music. ‘In-between’ seems to be the word that best describes the chat with Christian and Nico as Torture the Artist catches up with Kollektiv Turmstrasse in-between the release of their ‘Noisy Nights’ remixes for Holtoug on Connaisseur Recordings and their first EP, ‘RibbonReef’ on Musik Gewinnt Freunde, after three years. The music collective gives reasons for temporal gaps ‘in-between’ their releases and if you read ‘in-between’ Nico and Christian’s lines you’ll discover what, aside from the obvious and mentioned reasons, is significant to the both at a human and musical level and why they are still as motivated and passionate about what they do as back then when they started - just a little bit more mature, maybe professional but definitely honest and (self)-critical.

Dear people,

we decided to publish the set from Cologne. The set is not very good in terms of mixing. That annoys me most of us, but I won't shorten or cut anything out because I don't think I'm a DJ who would ever think of pressing the sync-button. I am not perfect as we all cannot be perfect. In addition, the monitor-boxes could not be operated at full power because there were residents around and you know that the most important thing about our music is the loud volume. "Calma Calma" dear music-police!
It is also not easy to play music these days as the most important thing is missing from such streams - which is You. You as a crowd. I miss your smile, your closed eyes dancing and now and then the little tear. Everything I see in front of me is nothing. This is strange and not complete for me.
I am very grateful for all the feedback from around the world. That left me very speechless here in little Weimar. Think of your clubs, your festivals, your newspapers, your labels, your record stores, your DJs and your musicians. They all gave and give you the food (music).

Biografie:

Wer seinen Heimatort kennt, könnte dazu neigen, seinen Sound mit diesem in einen unmittelbaren Zusammenhang zu bringen: die kleine, sympathische Stadt an der Ostsee Mecklenburg – Vorpommerns hat eine stark spürbare, eigene Sympathie, Atmosphäre und Charakter. Die Ewigkeit des Wassers ist omnipräsent. Norman Schaefer´s DJ-Sets, die objektiv und kühl betrachtet, eine Auswahl aus Deep und dubbigen Elementen wohl am treffendsten beschreibt, tragen eben irgendwie diese Atmosphäre, ihren eigenen Charakter, diese Ewigkeit und die bekannte Bodenständigkeit der nordischen Menschen. Sich in die Reihe unzähliger anderer zu Stellen, die einfach nur den neuesten DJ-Charts hinter eifern, um vor allen anderen der erste zu sein, der sie spielt, liegt ihm nicht nur fern, sondern wird seinem Anspruch in keinster Weise gerecht. Seine musikalischen Reisen sind ewig – seine Gigs erfüllt von der Wärme, die er in sich trägt. Er versteht es, elektronische Musik auch als Solches in einen tanzbaren Kontext zu setzen – und das ist eben fern jeglicher Popstrukturen. Norman Schaefer spielt mit dem Herz am rechten Fleck – das Herz, das für das schlägt, das er da an die Ohren weitergibt – und das spürt jeder, der seiner Performance beiwohnt. Seine Aktivitäten begannen schon 2003 im Kreise enger Freunde. Zum Glück kam irgendwann der Moment, an dem er nicht weiter nur diesen Menschen vorbehalten wollte, welch künstlerische Energie in ihm steckt und so kam es. Ein ganz natürlicher Vorgang war es daher, dass er ihn eben wegen dieser besonderen Haltung zur Sache, Sicht der Dinge und der Liebe zur Musik – Dinge, die sich komplett in seinem Sound widerspiegeln - auch bald Teil der „Freie Körper Klubtour“ – Familie wurde und nun als fester Bestandteil in dessen Artist Pool integriert ist.
