In a world where weekly releases number in the tens of thousands of tracks, how does an act manage to stand out from the crowd? We’ve noticed two main tactics, either capitalize on hype and gimmickry, or, preferably, take the path taken by emerging production and DJ duo Norris Division: focus on your craft and create consistently timeless, quality progressive house and techno tunes. It’s paying off, too. Since their founding in 2016, David Epstein and Justin Shiba, have brought their energetic and emotional sound to numerous world-class labels, hitting the Beatport charts regularly, with a couple of top five showings to their credit. Most recently they hit the number one position on Beatport’s Progressive House Releases chart with their remix of Dissident founder Noel Sanger’s 2008 classic “Natural Perfection.” 

So of course, it was natural for us to have them back, and they’ve turned in a couple of belters! 
Makita opens with gentle percussion and melodic arps, which slowly build the intensity with a chugging bass line and solid drum patterns until the breakdown graces us with reverb-soaked strings and pads. The energy returns with an unexpected acid line, riding out the track in epic fashion, truly an essential slice of progressive goodness.

The Mystery Mix takes a darker approach, bringing to mind the best of small, dark rooms in the wee hours of what time is it? We can’t remember because we lost our phone at some point but who cares we’re going to keep dancing and be blinded by the sun when we walk outside and oh look people are on their way to church as we leave the club but that’s ok because this is THAT kind of track. Mysterious sounds weave in and out of the mix, living up to its name; another timeless piece for those timeless memories. 

We’re really glad to have Norris Division back on Dissident Music with such a great release. Don’t sleep on “Makita!”

Moroccan dance music pioneer, Unes joins us with a classy single - Chechen - to see out the year. Remix support comes from Ras Algethi and Norris Division. The 20-year veteran and member of the highly influential Moroko Loko Crew made his name as resident at the Platinum club. A gifted DJ with a wide sonic palette, his deck skills soon saw him playing for international events across Europe and North Africa. Dipping his toes only recently in the producer pond, his debut release was a collaboration with seasoned artist, Namito on Ubersee Music. Nearly 12 months to the day later and Unes has honed his craft with his debut release for ICONYC Noir. Marrying the rhythmic sensibilities of House with the melodics of Prog, 'Chechen' soars, helped in no small part by the siren-like vocals featured within. On remix duties, Ras Algethi teases the vocal while thinning out the arrangement for a more stripped back feel. Norris Division, on the other hand, opts for a more tracky approach using the vocal elements as extra instrumentation.

Norris Division is a music production and DJ duo based in Phoenix, Arizona. The act is the brainchild of Justin Shiba and David Epstein, who joined their collective experience and vast background to create powerful tracks, inspired by Progressive, Deep House and Melodic Techno.

Their sound is driving, filled with energy and emotion modernized with a “retro” feel. Since their inception in 2016 they’ve released numerous works on respected labels worldwide, including two Top 5 Beatport progressive house tracks.

This achievement is a great testament to the pair’s production skills, and many years of experience performing with well-known Djs in electronic music. Their ability to create driving, emotional- energetic tracks has the power to engage the dance floor for hours
