fantastic playing, puts me in mind of Sir  Richard Bishop // Sun City Girls = my favourites!! bravo!! 

There's something intrinsically beautiful about the idea of starting a piece alone in a small room and seeing it travel over oceans and come back as something different yet familiar.  I love that there are portions of this where I'm not sure if I'm playing or if a stranger is playing and those bits are contrasted by tonal or technical variations that are distinct from my work.

Almost a surf guitar vibe here -- like it's playing on a radio in the corner of an airplane hangar. Love it.

Adowshay (disquiet0480)

“The unadorned idea of a goal is ambiguous,” writes the neuroscientist Read Montague in his book Your Brain Is (Almost) Perfect. “As with any complex information-processing system, there are many levels of software in the brain … all other subgoals take a backseat to the most important edict—‘Stay alive until tomorrow.’”

One could be forgiven for procrastinating creative efforts during these past fourteen or so months. Alternatively, such conditions may also inspire a flurry of new activity that otherwise would not have happened. Regardless, some amount of stuff doesn’t get done.

Suss Müsik had an album ready to go for nearly a year before actually completing and releasing it this week. The concept was to revisit prior works with simpler, more spare arrangements. 

Suss Müsik was also interested in exploring what French philosopher Gilles Deleuze described as “figurative analogies,” blurring the auditory lines between how digital and analogue sounds are represented.

This week’s Junto contribution, titled Deleuze, is the demo of a track that wasn’t included on an album that almost never got made. A figurative analogy, perhaps, for what we mean to do vs. what we actually do.

I loved the track by Tunnelwater https://soundcloud.com/user-524526704/disquiet0368?in=disquiet/sets/disquiet-junto-project-0368 using Ryan Scott Mattingly's track

it evoked someone trapped alone in a decrepit listening station on the edge of the desert during a brutal sandstorm, listening to the fading signal of a guitar on the radio as the storm whipped around outside. I dropped the track into Ableton Live, added some limiting, and then added guitar with reverb, plus EQ to isolate mids (I used an Epiphany Joe Pass model, a wonderfully spooky sounding guitar). The melody line is heavily improvised but inspired by the ghost chords that seem to emerge from the shadows of the underlying tracks.

Juntos en Palmyra (disquiet0369)

I used Disquietude (by gentil & encym) as my "final" piece. I was really moved by it, and hope that I was able to add some finality to it's fragile beauty. I used a kind of reverse string patch in Arturia Pigments and thought the tones sat nicely. It was a pleasure to work with, so many thanks to the original artists.

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.
