When we chose the artwork for the song and showed it to our friends, many asked why there were no car on it. The artwork actually represents a person, walking on an endless road leading straight into space, not a Ferrari Enzo. 
The answer was simply because it’s not really about cars. One could say that Fancy Cars is just as little about nice cars as The Scientist by Coldplay is about scientists. Of course, anyone may interpret the song and its lyrics any way they want, there’s no wrong or right, but our thought was that the title of the song only is a symbol for a greater entirety. It really doesn’t say more about the song then looking through a keyhole says about the room on the other side.     

Essentially, the song is about loneliness, about missing something but not really knowing what it is. If you’d ask the person in the song he or she would probably say: “What I miss the most is to be rich, successful and driving around in really nice cars”. If you’d ask me, I’d say the thing this person misses the most is someone to love.

Fancy Cars

The Grande Revolution, the sequel to Fancy Cars, is the second single to be released from the upcoming EP Finding a Sun Among a Billion Stars that will be released later this autumn. Just as the title of the EP implies, the songs included are about the search for someone. The search for a person who is for you yourself, what the sun is for humanity. Just as important, just as vital. Above all, the songs are about the endless struggle along the way, about how incredibly hopeless everything can feel and about the countless mistakes and wrong turns you’ll inevitably make before you one day, at last find what you’re looking for.      
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
The Grande Revolution more specifically, is a story about a relationship among many, that “Started off, promising” but quickly turned to something else entirely. For us, the members of the band, this story has a very distinct personal connection. Although we do believe, that for many among the listeners the lyrics will indeed be relatable. In other words, it’s extraordinary to say the least to find one’s sun on the first, second or even third try, and that is exactly what this song is about. Two pieces of a puzzle that no matter how you twist and turn them, just won’t fit together.  
  
However, the song isn’t at all exclusively about the negative elements in a relationship that’s about to end, on the contrary! The Grand Revolution is in fact more about the brighter, even positive perspective. The line “This is my final conclusion, it shouldn’t be this hard to just be holding on”, that’s repeated at the end of each chorus, refers to the fact that sometimes, in some cases, it might actually not be worth paying the extremely high prize, just to barely be able to keep things together. Sometimes it might be better, for all parties, to simply just let go, start over and move on. One should remember that at every end, there’s always a new beginning!    

The song actually ends with a rather happy feeling, of course there’s a bittersweet element in there as well, there’s a small tear but overall, it’s a feeling of relief and happiness!

The phrase ‘A Celebration of Humanity’ is originally a quote from the 2017 Oscar nominated musical ‘The Greatest Showman’, starring Hugh Jackman as the American showman P. T. Barnum. By the end of the movie, when the circus just has burned down, Barnum (Hugh Jackman) sits on the stairs of what was his life’s work, when a previously constant critic (Paul Sparks) joins him in the ashes left behind be the fire. They start talking and after a while the critic says:

“Putting folks of all kinds on stage with you…
All colors, shapes, sizes…
Presenting them as equals…
Why, another critic might have even called it
‘A Celebration of Humanity’”

Though the phrase from the movie did play a role in the inspiration of the song, the movie and the song are not related story wise. However, what the song truly is about is of course up to the listener to decide. For us it's about a culturally unthinkable relationship, a love story between two people that couldn’t be more different, but whose love in return is a proof of how very insignificant our differences really are. We knew quite early that we wanted this song to contain something more than just melodies and lyrics. We wanted to ignite a mindset and even if only for 3 minutes and 11 seconds, erase everything that pulls us apart as humans. For us It’s about celebrating our differences and realizing that love truly is boundless.

NORTHLIGHT is the small-town poprock band from Sweden with thousands of followers all across the globe and a great ambition to write music with heart. The band’s songs have been streamed over 1 million times.  

With their roots within the vast fir woods of Värmland in Sweden, just by the shores of the great lake Vänern, NORTHLIGHTs founding members, vocalist and frontman Victor Bergh and bass player Per Eresund, met in high school in 2012 where they after a math lesson decided to form a band. Self-taught and without any previous experience they quickly learned to master the art of song writing and were soon joined by lead guitarist Fredrik Andersson and drummer Johan Köhler. They started rehearsing in a classroom in a nearby school, as theirs didn’t have any rooms suitable for music, and with a handful of curious friends in the audience, they made their very first live performance in the spring of 2013. Influenced by giants such as Coldplay, U2 and The Killers, the bands future ambitions stood clearly defined from the beginning, and with a total of 19 studio recordings released NORTHLIGHT have already built a steady platform to build their future upon. 

In January of 2015, the first single Scars was released, which soon was followed by the four-song EP Wide Awake Dreamer, including the song One Man Land which made it in on Sweden's biggest chart for unsigned bands, P3 Osignat Top 10. Later the same year, the Swedes made their live debut abroad as they played on one of southern Europe’s biggest festivals, INmusic Zagreb, stealing audience from the British band Placebo who shared the same gig time on the neighboring stage. Back in Sweden two months later they entered the stage on Arvika Hamnfest, one of the biggest festivals in western Sweden. 

2017 was kicked off with the new single In the Night, which lead to a signing with the Stockholm-based music publishing company Musichelp. During the summer the band played on major Swedish festivals like Putte i Parken and Luleå Hamnfestival, as well as did their debut on the showcase festival Live at Heart in Örebro. The popular indie rock song The Fool was released in September and a few months later the arena rock-flavored single Everlasting Sun along with its acclaimed music video, quickly becoming a fan favorite.  

2018 would be the year when things really started to take off for the Swedish indie pop group. It began with the release of their most successful single so far, the arena-pop song Voyagers that has been praised by fans worldwide. With the announcement later the same year of the bands second EP Finding a Sun Among a Billion Stars, a fresh new sound was introduced with a more acoustic, serious and down-to-earth ring to it. The pre-EP single Fancy Cars was followed by festival gigs on Youbloom Dublin, Viva Sounds Gothenburg and Live at Heart Örebro for the second year in a row, which lead to NORTHLIGHT being awarded the title of INEStalents 2018 and 2019. In November, the anticipated EP was released with its leading song Midas quickly becoming popular, both among music blogs, magazines and the band’s ever-growing fanbase. 

The bands awaited 11th single A Celebration of Humanity was released on May 17th, along with its photo mosaic artwork created from 532 individual photos sent in by the band’s followers all across the globe. The release was followed by the single Equally Different in 2020 with which NORTHLIGHT won the regional finals of the nation-wide music competition P4 Nästa. The band was also later selected as one among eight contestants to compete in the national finals of P4 Nästa where NORTHLIGHT ended up on 5th place among 1 150 participants across the nation. Due to the band’s successful participation in P4 Nästa, Equally Different was frequently played during the summer and autumn on the both local and national radio station P4. A few months after the release of Equally Different, the band’s music also passed 1 million streams on Spotify.
