Oliver Prince - Hush Money

What better way to heat things up for the return of club season than the first official single of 2022 and the first official Dubstep single for the label. Sketchi makes an appearance on 1Forty for the first time in three years after two successive BSS appearances (1FBSS003/1FBSS004) see’s him return to channel his earlier 140 influences with a record ready to make shockwaves across the dubstep scene.

1Forty has featured a selection of artists on the Label from its home in Leeds and Sketchi is part of those very grassroots. Starting off his journey learning to mix and produce at the age of 14, growing up in the same area of Leeds a musical relationship was born with Mikey B thanks to their shared love for UK Bass music.

Taking inspiration from the early era of Grime and Dubstep along with the artists he follows across the bass music spectrum that have such a strong focus on low end sound design such as My Nu Leng, Taiki Nulight, S.P.Y, Dimension, Joker and Enigma Dubz (the latter two being no surprise here) he serves up ‘Osami’ to announce his return.

SLIMY APE X KONSIST - LICENSE TO PLAY

For our tenth release we welcome a keenly watched up and coming DJ & producer; CEASAR. 

This selector come producer has been making strides in the scene with his Drum & Bass releases in recent years alongside his residency with Long Dark Tunnel. This time however he’s turned his ear towards 140 and Dubstep for the first time, and we’re proud to finally get this project out on SUDO. This three-track project encompasses a breadth of influences from the 140 scene with Ceasar making his own twists throughout. Echo’s of Grime and Drum & Bass can be spotted through this release with even some Garage flavours finding a place in the final track.

“Today we embrace Bristol-based SUDO SOUND once again with their latest EP. We've been pleasantly humbled by the label's commitment to showcasing swampy 130-140 BPM sonics of all manner. Today, they come with a debut EP from none other than Ceasar.

The release explores deep territories of the Dubstep sound making it a fitting home for the label, and today we are grateful to premiere a personal favourite from the release.

The track titled Paracusia pushes futuristic sine-waves, and swampy drums—including a progressive switch up halfway in. Certainly one of the darker tracks in the EP.”

Coming in hot with our first release of the year - one for the heads that like it dark! Russian dubstep don Oddkut, who should be no stranger to 140 aficionados thanks to previous releases on the likes of Wheel & Deal, Artikal Music & DUPLOC, puts an ice cold spin on Nothingnice & Hayz's 2021 banger 'Hawkeye', with the London City Warlord himself Riko Dan returning on vocals. Where the original was all eerie tension, utilising space to a devastating effect, Oddkut's flip is straight up menace & threat, taking the temperature into sub-zero territory - but with more than enough weight to rattle the most serious systems.
