We are kicking off our mix series with a very special guest: NESA AZADIKHAH. Hailing from Teheran (Iran), Nesa is a dj and a music producer in her own right, with several releases ranging from ambient electronics to industrial techno. As the founder of Deep House Tehran, a pioneering platform dedicated to pushing forward electronic music culture in Iran and connecting with the global electronic music scene, her work is more relevant than ever.

Nesa’s taking us on a 90ies infused trip with fast paced breaks, acid lines, dreamy pads and vocals.

The second guest on our monthly radio show on @radioalhara is no one less than our resident CHEB RUNNER. Buckle up for an hour of tastefully remixed Arabic pop classics and experimental beats.

Producer Cheb Runner (real name Reda Senhaji) is a musical hurricane rooted in Moroccan soil, exploring electronic musical landscapes. Nurtured by both worlds, he represents a new sound of in-betweenness. Using first hand sounds and recordings of his own sample bank based on traditional instruments, he mixes playfully analog with digital effects supported with a unique collection of synthesizers.

Our third guest on our monthly radio show on @radioalhara is none other than Aroh.
@aroh-dj is part of Kontakt Group and often spotted at @crevetterecords. Hangin’ around on the streets of the Brussels Capital Region and collecting some wonderfully weird records and MP3’s along the way. Not to be pinned down in a corner or genre but with his eyes always on the prize, Aroh brings a selection of tunes deeply rooted in the archive of the subterranean music catalogues.

Born in Tunis, he had a big role in shaping and developing the local scene into what it is currently. He is the founder of Warok Music, a leading techno label in Africa and Owner of Are you Alien Records.

Through the years, he has been working on his two projects simultaneously: Eyth, which is his Techno Alias and Briki, his House & Electro Alias, releasing multiple successful Digital and Vinyl records on both his labels and internationally renowned labels.

For our 7th mix of the series we have the pleasure of inviting Stanislawa, a queer DJ and producer hailing from Brussels. 
She is the founder and co-head of the queer collective Deep Down East, focusing on Eastern European techno artist. She is actively working on her first releases which will come out in 2023. 
Her sound calls for a rebellious free space, which she spices up with uplifting beats, taking you on a nostalgic journey through trance and techno.

Not Your Techno Mix #7 - Stanislawa

We are proud to present the next mix in our series by our resident DJ Timmerman. Timmerman is a resident DJ at Funke and the co-founder of the gay parties ''Supergay''. Over the past years he has built a solid reputation as a DJ, being the best version of himself when playing long sets for sweaty, hazy and intimate dance floors — surrounded by the vibrant community he aims to let his music resonate with.
The mix he recorded for us turned out to be a warm and deep ode to the big D, with some sharp and spacey edges here and there. Describing himself as a house DJ at heart, this inclination resonates in his approach to mixing techno, and that’s exactly where the fun’s at.

For this new mix in the series, we had the pleasure of inviting Zaatar زَعْتَر, a dj and producer of Moroccan and Belgian origins currently based in France.

Zaatar زَعْتَر finds her inspiration in the post punk and EBM movement of the late 80’ and early 90’ and melodies and sounds inherited from her home country Morocco. 

Let her take you on a captivating journey from light to darkness, an oscillation between joy and melancholy sometimes punctuated by oriental melodies.

“It’s not easy to be free, but it’s harder not to be”.These are the first words to Bad Woman, Céline Gillain’s debut LP on DRAMA.

I’ve never had that many difficulties writing a text for a release. There were easy ways of dealing with it actually, like isolating some of the lyrics and making aphorisms out of them that would have punctuated the text. I could have also wrote about her music with hackneyed words and glamorous comparisons with the likes of Laurie Anderson or Leslie Winer.

Maybe is it because it summons the influence of artists that have been crucial in our lives, maybe is it because of the ambition and the absolute sincerity emanating from this record, maybe is it also because of the utter contemporaneity of the record… but I feel stuck.

So I will only say a couple of things. If the idea of an LP following her debut 7″ on Lexi Disques gets you as excited as we were and still are, you won’t be disappointed by Bad Woman. The music on the upcoming album definitely is pop music, but in a disturbing, beyond « good » and « bad » taste kind of way.

It sometimes feel as if Bad Woman has been written by a former Pop diva that saw her expectations being shattered by life and now tries to make her come-back with a new album, influenced by what she believes to be contemporary pop music. The thing is, the result is a mutant blend of everything and anything that has been produced by the music industry these last 30 years, from Cher’s delirious come-back in the 1990’s to the most embarrassing moments in Dance music, and it rather sounds like a record that would have been written in a parallel universe.

That being said, Bad Woman tackles painful issues about our lives as individuals and society but with absolute elegance. After months of being the only one able to listen to it, no need to say that Zaltan & I are now extremely proud and happy to see this record coming to life. Thank you Céline for untrusting with taking care of your album.

Washington DC-based Lurid Music welcomes Belgian-Tunisian producer Sara Dziri for a stunning EP entitled “Vague Realities” that showcases her mesmerizing blend of arab rhythms, hypnotic sequencing and sophisticated electronica. Her tracks are accompanied by remixes of the prolific Man Power and Cocktail d'Amore's resident Chida.

Sara Dziri is one of the artists defining Brussel's electronic underground scene. Hybridity and melancholy are central themes in her music, complex house and techno imbued with the over tones of her Belgian-Tunisian background. She has played at Boiler Room, Institut du Monde Arabe, Nuits Sonores/European Lab, Amsterdam Dance Event and more. Sara has a residency at Kiosk Radio and promotes the feminist queer underground party ‘Not Your Techno’ and ‘Souk Sessions’ , a night dedicated to arab techno.

Her first EP for Lurid Music opens with “Oasis”, a 109-bpm psychotropic desert chugger with Northern African percussion, gated Arab melodies and sinister basslines. England’s dar k force Man Power steps in to speed things up and deliver an entrancing throwback to outdoor raves of old, building upon repetitive loops, ever evolving jangling keys and shiny synth stabs.

The other side features the title track , “Vague Realities”, a sluggish techno beast featuring what could be described as Tunisian brass on acid. Japan’s underground hero Chida is called in for remix duties and delivers with abundance, producing a head-swaying Moroder-esque noir anthem that would bring the dead to life.
