This playlist is a compilation of the tracks made for a DOA production challenge.

The challenge: "You are invited to make and submit a tune/s from any genre of music from any era or make up your own, it must include a weird unique vibe. It can be as experimental and strange as you want, make it how ever you see fit.... serious or not, have fun and loose your mind a bit. Go deep."

Old weird tracks could be entered as examples and inspiration. This playlist is a combination of those old tracks and new ones produced specifically for the challenge.

The Tides of Time

This is from my first session with the new version of SunVox, v1.9.6
I was trying out the new pitch shifter feature.
In the first half the melody of pads determine the transposition ofbtje pitch shifter.
In the second half, it's the bassline. It's a subby bass so play it loud!

I was planning on going weirder, especially with the vibrato, but the tune was getting lost, so I toned it down to what you hear here.

Weird On Mars

'Sup. I've emerged from retirement for a detailed exploration of reggae samples in jungle/D&B :)

A bit like the hip-hop & ‘give me a break’ samples mixes, this one's a laidback affair without any breakbeat/reconstruction stuff, but it covers the gamut of dub, reggae, roots & ragga (with some easter eggs chucked in), so I figured it can be part of the eclectic series. Note that I've taken pains here not to duplicate anything from the previous mixes, so if you get to the end and think (for example) 'where the fuck was Chase The Devil?', hopefully you'll trawl back through the playlist to find it.

In all honesty it was great fun to pull together, and I owe thanks to Matt (aka Rollin) over at Dogs on Acid for planting the idea. To divert briefly, this rekindling of my love for reggae came directly off the back of a mix I recently did for the Dubs On Acid Collective, an amazing charity project with some seriously talented guys. Back to the mix, and time to big up the Rolldabeats sample hunters once again as I shamelessly raided 90% of the tracklist from their forum - Phokus, Haste, DJ Dara, Ornette, The Manipulator, Mikeeee, JJ, Ian S, Dee Jay Budd, Dan Vye, Droid, Logic, Force Is Electric, JVXP, Serum, Mr Sensi, Blah, Caedo261 and probably a bunch of others I’ve forgotten (sorry), plus Jason 0=0 and the jungle beardstrokers over on FB.
