Block 5 made the class beat together as a group and all agreed that we should write about manifesting our success. Harmonee and Zaria were supposed to be on the song with Xaire, but they both changed their minds. This leaves Xaire with a solo song as her first recording in the N4N studio at HFCA! Mr Derrick chose not to give her any advice about rapping the verse or how to flow it. Xaire did a great job and her energy and personality shine throughout the performance. We love this one!

Jayden and Patrick wanted to make a track together that captured the grunge and punk rock aesthetics of the 90s and early 2000’s. We studied how singers of those eras delivered their lines, and worked to recreate a track of that captured a similar energy of youthful angst, heartbreak, and protest. Patrick hopped in the booth with Jayden to write and sing the hook and we cooked up a few  catchy pop-punk style tracks over the course of the week. My favorite, “Do It Myself”, is on our soundcloud now.

Kiiren is an old soul in a young kid's body. His lyrics and topics are mature, confronting, and deep dives into politics, race, class, identity, and how life can quickly get complicated. But he is a lyrical and musical force to be reckoned with. We hit the ground running quickly due to our extensive history in being professional artists. I played him a beat that I had made recently, and he fell in love with my sound immediately, knowing that I could really get his bars to shine. His performance skills are so strong that he almost recorded the entire song in one take, not something I witness often in the studio.

This track came together during my very first session with Ella. We started by listening to one of her recent covers, before deciding what to do next.. After a few minutes of brainstorming, we landed on a 2010 Bruno Mars ballad. Within the hour, we were recording. The vision was a simple and soulful stripped-down piano ballad, light on rhythm, lifted by gentle strings. We are currently writing our first original together and are excited to share this first collaboration.

Ella is a 14 year old member of our Austin location. She has been a member since she was 8 years old, starting with piano, and also doing recording, production, songwriter and more.
