[PIRANHA SIBERIA DUB] presents its 68th release: Tsubasa Arakawa – Artworker EP

What happens when the spirit of Tokyo meets the raw, grey edges of Novosibirsk?
You get Artworker EP by Tsubasa Arakawa (@tsubasa-arakawa) — a sound architect balancing on the edge of digital utopia and industrial dream. When the last worker leaves the factory, only noise remains in the empty halls. And shadows. Tsubasa Arakawa recorded them. Artworker EP is a chronicle of silence after the process. It’s what happens when the machines fall asleep, and sound stays awake.

Nine chapters of a technical symphony, written in the code of dub mechanics.

::: "Artworker" – an act of creation, a mechanical poem where each sample is calibrated. A chronicle of silence after the process. The sound that remains when the machines shut down.
::: "Kizlyar" – a hypnotic waltz with echoes from the Caucasus, through fog and bass catacombs. A distant junction at the edge of time, where rhythm glides down a dusty road into memory.
::: "Polivoks M" – the synthesizer as narrator, speaking through distortion of an era when technology was analog and emotion direct. Synthesized nostalgia pulsing through old hardware.
::: "Labor Union" – a rhythmic solidarity march, a post-industrial anthem for a city that no longer exists. A sonic poster made of synths and echo, transmitting unity wave by wave.

The remixes? They are alternative edits. Parallel stories.

::: Deepdrome (@deepdrome) lends Polivoks M a chilling gravity and acidic groove — thoughts melt, the subconscious downloads.
::: Oldschool_Dubtechno .Producer (@enercube & @x_fr), with a Novosibirsk inflection, reimagines Labor Union as an abandoned plant where echo is the only worker left.
::: Takashi Mori (@cogolo-mori) reinterprets Artworker as a digital zen canvas, stripping away the superfluous — leaving only the breath of the music.
::: Wataru Naruse (@wataru-naruse) gives Polivoks M a second wind: strict, focused — like a space station adrift in orbit.
::: Soma Kosugi (@yochugi) lifts Kizlyar into a storm-lit sky of synthesizer textures, where borders dissolve and rhythm becomes the only compass.

Artworker EP is an engineering album about building worlds from sound. About creating bridges between nations, languages, and vibrations. A manifesto of transnational dub techno — grounded in culture, launched beyond the horizon. An archive. A legacy. Left behind by a sound engineer in an abandoned hangar.

"I became a DJ specifically because I love clubbing, nightlife for me was always important. I’m speaking in past tense for obvious reason. This pandemic has been life altering for my relationships—now I don’t just make friends when I’m out dancing or playing out! That said before this all began, Atlanta was really picking up in terms of defining its underground identity. We have a diverse range of crews and producers, so the language of our underground dance scene was in a new era. That said, I didn’t want to capture what ATL club life was like before covid, but what I think it could become if we keep this shit up. It’s not just Atlanta either; Nashville and Knoxville, both have amazing scenes and we all communicate. So for me, this is me doing my part—taking the collective identity of our steppers and presenting it to platforms like Discwoman. We have so many stories to tell, and that is what I needed this mix to do. "

Bread New Year 2021 – Zaida

We know Atlanta's underground dance music scene is thriving; besides the DIY spaces and the freedom and energy on the dance floors, there's are diverse pool of creatives at the forefront who are steering the scene out of relative obscurity and onto the global map.

While putting a lens on the movements in the city last year, through the eyes of Ryan Parks AKA Fit Of Body and Gabby Afable, we were tipped off on another new name — producer and DJ Zaida. 

After combing her soundcloud and rinsing her mixes, which include an instalment for Discwoman that celebrated the collective identity of both Atlanta's scene and her contemporarys in Nashville and Knoxville, we wanted to hear more of Zaida's sonic storytelling.

This resounds through her mix for us which, as well as featuring her own productions - some that were finished especially for this mix, captures the way that she'd conduct the dance floor and has us pining for the clubs to return...
