The early 2010s were an extended annus mirabillis for heavy-hitter Sébastien Michel, whose release of megahit ‘Mixtion’ was just the start of a trajectory that followed the shedding of his former skin as half of Daxyl and saw him pursue a more streamlined and emphatic vision of the techno future under his UVB pseudonym. Back in a time when he was hell-bent and producing up to three tracks a day, his early excursions into clubland were distinguished by sets forged exclusively from his own work; that gamut is a little broader nowadays but clearly no less exciting and personal. For the latest instalment of Bassiani Podcast series, he packs those years of toil into a succinct and aggressive strike, hedonic yet disciplined, the type of masterful studio mix you’d expect from the Body Theory label boss.

A former percussionist and Jazz head, Kancheli flexes the width of his musical palette to compelling effect, clashing full-blown functional DJ tools against abstract-adjacent flights to form his own dynamic yet hypnotic dance grammar away from normative constraints and ephemeral fads. The result is a bumpy, shape-shifting masterclass of a mix, bridging the gap betwixt proper floor-focussed explosiveness and more inward-gazing extrapolations. She’s is a true minimalist in her approach one could say, finding the beauty in every single fragment that a track breaks apart into, something Philippa takes to heart when digging for new tracks. Philippa’s set are versatile and high on energy. Pacho prefers to keep the audience attentive with small changes that continues throughout the night and loves small steaming floors to tell her story on.
