One and a half years after his successful debut EP ‘You Like Jazz?’ on Salin Records, Michael Diamond comes back with another fresh and powerful release. Possessing a strong jazz feel albeit cloaked in the veil of a more modern electronic sound, the concept EP ‘Silk Road’ marks the next level for the 22-year-old as he dissolves any boundaries between genres, creating a symbiosis of sounds and textures to take you to places only he knows. 

We still enjoy remembering how we celebrated the release of his ‘You Like Jazz EP’ back in January 2020, Oxford, where Michael Diamond and Christophe Salin DJed back-to-back alongside live improvisation from saxophonist Alex Wilson. It was at that special weekend that Michael played some of his latest ideas to us over a coffee in his student room. They were the first versions of ‘Through Ivory Gate’ and ‘Adrift Penitent Moors (feat. Alex Wilson)’. Michael later wrote ‘Adrift Corrosive Waters (feat. Alex Wilson)’, ‘Glistening Currents’ and ‘Lullaby of Birdland’ especially for this EP and Salin Records. He decided to team up with his friend Alex Wilson again to provide some serenading sax lines to bring the whole story to life. ‘Through Ivory Gate’ pays homage to Michael’s Indian heritage. Inspired by the theme of Asian culture and the rest of the EP, Michael’s close friend Áine Kim Kennedy crafted an abstract poem to be read alongside listening to the music. It is a beautifully enigmatic verbalisation of the journey the EP intends to take you on. Finally, Daria Salin embodied the music and poem through
her painting. 

The final result is a marriage of artforms; Music, Poetry and Art, all to be absorbed together as a holistic experience. We hope you enjoy your journey through the Silk Road.

Oxford-based musician Michael Diamond’s new EP, Silk Road EP, serves as a  distillation of this young producer’s divergent interests in genres as varied as Jazz, Ambient, World Music, and Electronic. The cross-pollination of influences and ideas feels especially fitting considering its release via German label Sa’lin Records, a label which advocates for a holistic artistic experience for each of its releases, rooted in the intersection between visual art, poetry, and music.
	
B-side opener, “Glistening Currents”, unfolds according to its own internal dream logic–– each element fusing together in remarkably idiosyncratic, yet unusually precise and awe-inspiring ways. Keeping in line with his jazz background, the track has several phases, the first being a kind of dark, echo-laden breakbeat rhythm, before evolving into a dubby, synth-washed Jazz-House odyssey with jittery, overlapping percussion. The percussion, working in counterpoint to the spacey keys and ambient flourishes, keeps the track alive and constantly evolving. 
	
Diamond displays a remarkable knack for keeping things fresh while never stepping too far afield, wherein the disparate elements would ultimately grow stale or feel disjointed. Diamond intends for listeners to read Áine Kim Kennedy’s accompanying album-sleeve poetry while they listen. With its cryptic imagery and allusions to things like both artist’s Asian identity and history, the answers provided may not be exactly clear. Together, they hint at the impossibility of ever truly arriving at some grand conclusion about the nature of whatever we seek to understand. The track feels like that statement in musical form–– a destination always just out of reach, ultimately rendered insignificant by the magnitude and mysticism of the journey itself.

R&S founder Renaat Vandepapeliere launches a new series RV Trax, to reflect the sound of his DJ sets and to give a platform to artists not based on social media likes or online hype.

Re-invigorated and inspired by contemporary dance floor sounds, after 30+ years as the label owner and figurehead Renaat succumbed to the temptation to finally, at the tender age of 60, try his own hand at rocking the crowd.

Renaat's sets have seen him assemble a treasure trove of unreleased music that will now find a very personal home on RV Trax. Emblazoned with the Belgian national colours of black, yellow and red these tracks proudly flaunt their 'floor-filling dynamics.

The first, a dance floor stormer from Steve Legget, remixing fellow North Easterner Bird Of Paradise’s original - a tight punchy workout that pairs distorted 909 kicks against a high tension string part and melancholic synth pads. G-Prod (AKA French brothers David and Nicolas Gaugain) provide a balmy, motor-city style number - shuffling drums underpin sunrise synth washes and euphoric melodies. Buenos Ayres' Hermetics provide a frostier mood with ‘Collider’ - chilly FM bells pinned against serrated percussion and swirling distortion

Tom Jarmey releases his debut album for Lobster Theremin sub-label Distant Horizons (formally known as Distant Hawaii) with the beautifully serene ‘Amber Glass’ LP.

On Amber Glass, Jarmey draws on influences from ambient, house, breakbeat and techno, combining dusty drum sequences on top of cosmic synth patterns and classic, warm, tape-driven production. 
It’s a rare treat in the post-rave, home-listening dance spectrum and showcases a knack for brooding, laid-back grooves as well as a killer melody and rhythm. Chock full of breaks,bubbling electronica, deep diving tones and emotional textures, the album is a glimpse into the work of a rising producer, but one who nonetheless sounds comfortably in their prime.
Jarmey seamlessly blends breathtaking soundscapes, luscious vocals and soaring synth hooks on this debut long play following releases for 13th Hour, Shadow City and R.A.N.D. 

The LP sets the tone for future excursions on Lobster from the versatile Manchester-based producer.
Long-time musical collaborator and saxophonist, Ed Hodge, joins Jarmey for a clutch of tracksonthis project, with Hodge performing sax on both ‘Bees In Meadow’ and ‘Deeper Pacific’.
