After last year’s successful ‘Deep Love 10’ compilation Dirt Crew now bring yet another massive collection of exclusive tracks by label residents and new faces. ‘Deep Love 15’ is packed with outstanding new releases that vary from the deep grounds of house to the underground sides of techno and disco.

Releasing the entire 16 tracks across a five-track EP and bonus 11 track CD (sold as one product) the compilation splits and stretches itself across all formats. The five vinyl tracks are all more towards the deep house side. Funk and soul laden grooves with main house heads ‘Brame & Hamo’ and ‘Nachtbraker’ starting off on the A-side, both tracks showing their signature sound written all over. The third track is by label newbies ‘Homework’ from Amsterdam who Dirt Crew know from their great outings on ‘Exploited’ and most recently ‘Let’s Play House’, as well as studio neighbours of ‘Detroit Swindle’ and kind of part of the family already. The B-side is by the UK act ‘Voyeur’ who made a good name for themselves already with their release on Kerri Chandler’s ‘Madhouse’ label. Their track ‘The Long Way Home’ is truly one of the highlights of this compilation, with it’s jazzy and classic sounding house approach. To close off we have the Berlin based Spanish brothers ‘Kyodai’ taking over, with a true journey of a track they go way deep into the house and techno regions, instant goosebumps when you hear this on a big system!

Over to the CD, the music covers all genres and it was a challenge to fit them all together in one nice package. We start off with a couple of new heads, on the first tracks. ‘Laurence Guy’ teamed up with ‘Harry Wolfman’, both from the UK and both on Dirt Crew HQ’s watch list for quite a while, they make that great mix of funky and jazzy sounds with a hint of disco. Next is the mysterious ‘Soul of Hex’ from Mexico who just recently released their first 12” (one member here is ‘Sebastien Vorhaus’ who just released an EP on Dirt Crew together with ‘Ponty Mython’). We also have ‘Loz Goddard’ among these first few tracks, he will be doing a full EP later this year with ‘Harry Wolfmann’ on Dirt Crew - so a lot of collaborations coming up between all these guys. One thing they all have in common is a very fresh twist to the current house genre.

‘Kito Jempere’, ‘Downtown Party Network’ and ‘Waifs & Strays vs PBR Streetgang’ need no introduction. All have made brilliant releases over the last few years and all have one thing in common, a love for disco and deep grooves, ‘Kito’ of course is the jazz man here, his crazy twists and unique sounds make all of his tracks very special. The American side of the Dirt Crew family is also represented by LA based ‘Edit Murphy’ and ‘Rhythm Operator’. Both have a very old schoolish approach to their music and both tracks could well have come from an obscure early 90s Chicago twelve. Having made an excellent album last year on Steffi’s ‘Dolly’ imprint with ‘Will Martin’, Bostonian ‘John Barrera’ closes the CD with a blistering Detroit techno cut. Lastly DC of course had to feature a track by Belfast lads ‘Schmutz’ who released their first EP on Dirt Crew in January. Their unique dark twisting techno sound is just like no other, distorted but always with that warm underground house feeling to it.

So there we have it. Deep Love 15. 16 brand new and exclusive tracks across three formats, showcasing just where Dirt Crew is in 2015. Keepin’ it underground!

It feels like it's been a while since ol' Shir Khan's powered up his Black Jukebox for more hot house adventures on wax, but here we are at the beginning on y2k19 with a brand new jam! 

Based in Colombia’s capital, Bogota, Felipe Gordon is one of the new champions of the Colombian movement, effortlessly fusing the natural instruments and rhythms of his native area to the globally celebrated phenomenon we know as house. 

Eyes-down and jazzy, the four cuts on offer here will find a natural home in backrooms & basements with low ceilings and dull lights. It's a perfectly realized exercise in proper deep house, combining passages and inspiration from Columbian music and jazz whilst keeping things forward propelled and lively. Excellent stuff!

Like many Canadians, Joseph Shabason and Ben Gunning like to untangle themselves from urbanity and disappear up north a few times a year. Unlike other cottage-goers, Ben and Joseph don’t while away the ur-time on jet-skis and lounge on docks reading pulpy mysteries. Instead, they bring a car full of synths, drum machines, saxophones, guitars, samplers, effects, and recording equipment to jam the days away in a cabin-fever inducing haze of wood smoke, cedar musk, hot wires and jazz sweat. 

Muldrew, recorded on the northern Ontario lake by that name, is the culmination of several years of this collaborative tradition. Resisting their penchant for composition and arrangement, the duo embarked on this project with only an open framework that encouraged restraint. The result is a sparse and improvisational album, hung on enough structure for each song to evoke a distinct, albeit ambiguous mood. Space is paramount and even the most digital elements breathe with the resonance of the room and mingle with creaking floors. The resulting album is steeped in the placid stillness and northern ambience of a lake at dawn, and the emotive expanse of a forest at dusk. Imagine an ECM cottage-series, or Jon Hassell, Hiroshi Yoshimura, and John Martyn scoring a Bela Tarr film set in rural Canada. This is the future-proof music of metropolitan polyglot minds invigorated by nature’s mute refusal to follow a click-track.

The South is more than just a landscape. It is a corporal mark permeating the sensible experience; a form of imagination staggering on the edge of forgetfulness; an ambivalent minoritarian-becoming coexisting between the uncontrolled immensity of profusion and the violence of systematic plundering. 

From the record label Hiedrah Club de Baile, AGGROMANCE’s first full-length album, Turbera, is a digital handicraft piece that displays the contradictory speeds of a brown life born under the sign of the Uncomfortable, that worn coat embracing the very end of the world; a singular sound reluctant to the idea of a reconciliation between origin and destiny; a cartography from a stained body aimed to disorient the moral expectations about that sunken cry articulating its own desire to survive. 

Between the continuum of a hardcore sound lubricated by the cosmopolitan rawness and the tremor of a language desperate to the “authoctonous legitimacy”, right at the middle of the acid dampness of a nameless garden, Turbera unleashes the promise for a party gloomed by resentment as a twisted form of hope. A low-tech danceable impulse stagging that distopian futurity which we still live in, allowing us to recognize our faces against the dirty mirrors of this swamp-world, where, despise all our fatigues, there is some music worthlessly running on the melting of the global order and it harbors the password of the living.

Silence was all around and the world was still in the small hours of the morning as the sun began to rise beyond the horizon. The stream rippled and meandered its way down the mountain side towards the river below and it were as if god herself was taking an almighty breath of air before the day commenced. This was infinite harmony...

Here is the second single from the Girls of the Internet album, a deep, spiritual, cosmic house mover built for those later afternoon sunset sessions. A beautiful house track with elegant orchestral strings and an ode to sunnier climates.
