Then She Reaches for the Gun was formed in 2021 by Mat Ward. At its essence is sound collage, experimentation and the desire to merge and defy genres. Ward invites musicians, sound artists, poets and anyone interested to send him files to be used, abused and showcased ‘as suggested by the work’. They are not always musical but field recordings, spoken word, engine noises and drunken rants. Animals participate a lot too! The raw material is arranged one phrase asks for the next in an alchemical and intuitive process that will most often feature dozens of tracks weaving in and out of each other, colliding, harmonising, arguing and laughing along the way.

Both the aesthetic and the compositional methods use what Frank Zappa called Xenochrony - the mixing together of separately recorded and rhythmically opposing musical phrases to create polyrhythmic and polytempi compositions.The work also features fragmented story telling with the human voice (in many languages) appearing unannounced throughout the tracks offering up snippets of thoughts, conversations, jokes and existential angst. The absurdity of humanities desperate claim to have any real understanding of its place in the universe is revealed through the recorded follies and genuine emotions of the participants in these works. The project is a celebration of experimentation, chance, diversity and community. It pays homage to all musical tastes and genres whilst maintaining a sense of humour and irreverence that is needed to stay sane in the climate of early 21st Century contemporary culture.

Trump's desperate move to try and rename the Gulf of Mexico shows how weak he is. He shows how badly a mind can be poisoned when it blocks out their spirit. Whatever you believe about what he's doing/trying to do/has,hasn't done... He's a racist c*nt and that's a fact ... and the only way he's not is worse .. He plays on racist stereotypes and xenophobic poison within American culture and amplifies and nourishes it (🟧Scumbag {sorry orange square}) Both scenarios mean DT will always find history books as the divider he IS... His ancestors destroyed most of the culture that brought the wisdom this song discusses to light. So he ain't ever changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico as long as I'm alive. Not in my world anyways. If only the world reacted to his monopoly game with real money like they did to this attempted name change. We could accelerate the inevitable decline of this poison if we did put it up to them... I know that would mean a temporary pain and shift for all of us but we would come out the other side a better less greedy humanity.

It does paint very very nakedly how insular the people that celebrate that change of name without a very very bad taste in their mouths. Not a care in the world for anyone else but themselves. They urinate themselves all over the world "thinking" they are the pinnicle of civilisation. Well the smell is getting a bit rancid for everyone else and soon they won't be able to bare it either. Headline humans dumbing themselves down to oblivion. They'll burn away soon. Change is coming for the greater good 🍿
