This was a track which I started back in March when my music tastes were changing drastically. I started appreciating cinematic story telling music. It all started with a conversation I had with a friend of mine regarding beats at odd bpm’s. After that I started building layers on this track, starting with a bass guitar riff and proceeded to try to build an entire story around it. I also named it Adavi because it means 'the Jungle' or 'the Wild' in Telugu.

This Sampled Dialogue from an interview with Bob Marley
always inspired me to look at things in a different perspective.
I wanted to build a track from my perspective of the concept
of Materialism and how the realization of its negative effects
on my life allowed me to let go of it.
A Soft Wurlitzer accompanied with pads make the bed of the
track, the idea of adding vocals to this track came along very
later in the process but turned out to be the prominent features
of this track. A blend of the Carnatic vocals and Bluesy

vocals, along with signature vocal chops. The outro of the
track involves synthesis of multiple Square waves creating a
crowded atmosphere. Overall, this track is heavily influenced
by the Afrobeat and hip-hop genres along with strong ideas
from Daft Punk.

Based out of Kolkata, Rounok Cizzy Chakraborty is the most prominent voice in bringing Bengali rap to the masses. Due to Hindustani Classical training, he has a unique approach towards Hip Hop music and an inclination towards bangla folk.

Tienas (Azadi Records) | English | Mumbai -

Tienas is a rapper based out of Mumbai, repping Azadi Records and FTS Elementaries. Known to have a very smooth nonchalance style of rapping, it was interesting to see how Tienas would switch his style since his particular song required a thematically aggressive approach. 

Kav-E | English | Mumbai –

Kav-E is one of the few classic spoken word artists of Mumbai rap scene who notably stands out because of effortlessly switching to newer styles of Hip-Hop over time. Hailing from Goa, Kav-E has made a name for himself by rapping in his native tongue of Konkani but chose to rap in English for NEW RELIGION. He has won numerous rap championships and accolades over the years. His struggle was captured in the hip hop documentary, Breaking Bombay.

Gravity | Hindi | Mumbai  - 

Gravity was  was shortlisted to appear on the track even before there was a beat. Tre’s favorite Hindi rapper in the country right now, Gravity is known for being a wordsmith. He’s been consistently evolving with every single track he has released and like Tienas, he’s also dropping his debut project this year. Representing the side of Indian Hip-Hop that many others have claimed to rep but few are as genuine. Gravity is based out of Mumbai and is also part of the collectives, Death Clutch Music and Bombay Lokal.

Raunaq Sandhu aka Mr Sandhu is a Mumbai based producer who has been producing electronic music for the past 4 years. His latest release, Sadi is inspired by his memories of listening of Punjabi music when young and the elation he felt then. The track aims to fuse the Deep Tech / Deep House sound with the same. Although his signature sound, somewhere between deep house from the likes of, Anjunadeep, Lost and Found, Juicebox music and techno/deep music from labels like Afterlife, Keinemusik and Steyoyoke, has been compositions usually painted with moody atmospheres and focusing on percussive elements and subtle melodies. "Sadi" is a break from this as though breaking the surface from the state of being submerged underwater, which best represents, visually his previous releases. In his musical journey Raunak, in his childhood had trained in the dhol and guitar and the knowledge of these intricate grooves and melodies is something he is inspired by and tries to incorporate in his electronic productions.

Come Through is the latest single by the duo Greens comprising Sydney based Sukruth Rao and Mumbai based Taamara Krishna and featuring Akhil George on Keys. The track is based on a simple instrumentation and structure layered with strong, intimate vocals. Coming from an R&B / Pop space with influences from Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop, the duo has a unique collaborative process, with both currently based out of different countries. In terms of their workflow, Sukruth primarily creats the instrumentation and beats, while Taamara, writes, performs and produces the vocal elements.

Similar to the manner in which leftover curry, left to sit, develops an enhanced flavour as the spices slowly seep into the food, Aditi Ramesh's latest EP, "Leftovers" is a compilation of all the music that she has written in recent times and wasn’t able to record right away. Having left these songs to grow and rearrange themselves as her sound evolved, they have now metamorphosed into something much richer than their initial versions. This EP is also symbolic of the coming together of her band as a family and is something EP artwork represents - a caricature of her band sitting together before a jam session and sharing a meal she has cooked is a pattern that’s now become a ritual for the quartet.

Chalien Kahin is the first track of Bawari Basanti's debut EP, 'Underwater' featuring Ejaz on the Sarangi & Sean on the Guitar. The creative process of this Indie Folk track began a year back on her Ukelele, the idea being to keep the track minimalistic with Indian Classical & Guitar elements. Mahima's music is uniquely melodic and revolves around ideas of identity, doubt, and dreams of a dystopian theme.

This week's release is a engrossing EP by Bombay based producer Adam Jai Malvi aka Blame Adam. Asura Part 1 is an amalgamation of Chill Out, TripHop, House & Drum&Bass. The EP has been in the works for over a year, with some tracks having been ideated upon since the last six years. It is primarily about emoting and expressing the backstory of indescribable moods and experiences through the medium of intense melodies. Compositionally, the songs are an intersection of global electronic music with a subtle touch of ethnic elements from around the world.
