Fauna_Vs_Fauno_

"Who Was Still Asleep" — these are the opening words of Chapter Six in the first part of Don Quixote, and also the title of this piece.

In this work, the Zukan Trio and vocalist Andoni Arcilla embody Don Quixote’s niece, the housekeeper, the priest, and the barber as they scrutinize the knight’s library. Through their voices and instruments, the performers musically portray the emotions of these characters as they judge the books—many of which are ultimately sentenced to destruction.

Electronic elements add an additional sonic layer, expanding the acoustic palette into more complex textures. In doing so, they distort and dissolve the spoken word, just as fire consumes the written word on paper.
