They came to London for the 2010 edition of RBMA as two of the most distinct voices in electronic beat wizardry. Two years later, their meeting under the Academy roof and their shared passion for intricate organic soundscapes resulted in a full-length joint project called Kidsuke, which was released on Project Mooncircle to much critical acclaim and collegial backslapping. Using a toy-based jam session on kidkanevil’s living room floor as their starting point, the duo’s LP combined a refreshingly creative concept with the synthesized know-how of two highly adept beat eccentrics.

“Butterfly Case” is Cuushe’s brand new breath-taking 2nd full length album, coming four years after her beautiful debut “Red Rocket Telepathy” and the subsequent “Girl You Know That I Am Here But The Dream” EP.

While Cuushe’s debut album put more focus on field recordings and found sounds, in “Butterfly Case”, you can see her moving graciously from her dreams into reality, expressing herself with delicate analog tape, distorted synths, drum machines, looped guitars and her signature feathery vocals. This wonderful album is co-produced by flau label mastermind aus, with Geskia at the mastering helm. These astonishing new songs allow us see a new vision, an imagination from Cuushe that we’ve never seen before.


The balearic guitar-house track “I Love You”, which is one of the most popular tracks from the album, has already been receiving raving reviews from the press both in Japan and overseas, while the ambient-ish R&B take in “Hanabi” is a wonderful reminiscent of Cocteau Twins & early 4AD meet soul music. Cuushe - Do You Know the Way to Sleep (new song, 2011)
Cuushe is the latest artist on Flau from the city of Kyoto and her CD 'Red Rocket Telepathy' is a bizarre, unique trip down some blurred vision of "dream-pop" lane, showcasing some gorgeous, lilting ethereal vocals, wonky, woozy synths, slow trippy beats &amp; laptop scrunch. Comparisons to the likes of Seefeel are apt and not without good reason but the layering of bizarre smudged sounds &amp; drunken sounding keys recalls early Boards of Canada and Leila's kaleidoscopic bedroom soul and even such random sound texture/noise-art pioneers such as Kit Clayton. I'm really fascinated by this CD, its appeal crosses the normally static boundaries of shoegaze and should be of interest to fans of progressive electronica as well as fans of the more adventurous extremes of "trip-hop" such as Lamb. A most unusual and deeply beautiful album from Cuushe and a hard one to describe in many ways as it blends together many different styles whilst retaining its own unique identity. Constructed from mostly electronic components and using vocals as one of the main focuses of the tracks, there’s an instantly appealing depth and warmth to this. Washes of sound and texture play gorgeously over a selection of downbeat, abstract beats~ You can hear elements of shoegaze in some of the more intense works, but generally there’s a low-key sound that works in an almost subconscious way. The female vocals are delivered in such a way that they feel more a part of the instrumentation than anything else, yet there’s a breathiness and easiness to them that gives them clarity at all times. The sense of melancholy is tangible throughout and I found myself going back to particular tracks again and again just to experience their almost aquatic, underwater sound. It’s beautifully put together and something that I believe will give more and more over time – certainly, the more I listen to it the more I get it. Rarely does music like this leave me struggling for words, but this really has, and I reckon that’s an extremely good thing. As I said before, it’s unique and very, very beautiful indeed. Another delightful abstract pop record from the Flau stable, Red Rocket Telepathy mixes the sensitive, leftfield song formations of Cuushe with the additional mixing and treatments of Yasuhiko Fukozono (of Aus fame) ~ the electronic production is beguiling in itself throughout the tracklist, plumbing depths that might exceed your J-pop expectations. Cokiyu’s long-awaited single, 'Haku', is finally here! The title of this single, 'Haku', is actually a brand new demo song by cokiyu after her critically acclaimed 2nd album, “Your Thorn”. Started from'Haku', cokiyu then invited 3 of her favorite artists, namely Baths, Geskia! and LASTorder to collaborate using materials from 'Haku'. In this collaboration process, new ideas were born, new sounds were injected, new dimensions were created, and thus, 3 new songs were conceived.

'Twinkle Way' is a very charming duet with the popular artist Baths (anticon label) from United States, along with sweet beats and fluffy vocals. 'Pulsation' is the result of the beautiful collaboration with flau’s beats producer Geskia!, whose popularity in Japan has been rising rapidly. And the 19 years old young gun LASTorder (who is known for his collaboration with Shingo2) joined forces in the 3rd song, “Fluorite”, with some gorgeous and yet dramatic arrangement.

The single is completed with a 9-minutes epic remix by Kyoto’s most talented young beat-maker, Madegg, who recently released his debut album “Tempera” in flau label.
