La Chacarera del Último Latido for Flute, Clarinet, Piano, Percussion, Violin & Cello

The piece is based on a folklore rhythm from Argentina: la Chacarera. My parents are
from Argentina. I grew up in Israel, but in a house that had the Argentinian culture.
The piece La Chacarera del Último Latido (from Spanish – the Chacarera of the last heart beat) is trying to deal with a folklore non-western rhythm in the field of contemporary western music. For me, the relationship between these two worlds is in a struggle, but in the piece they are trying to fit together.

This piece is inspired by an interpretation of Rumi’s poetry, depicting the stages of spiritual journey and mystical ascent. Through this piece, I aimed to narrate the path of Sufi spiritual progression using musical expression. The work was performed by Nava Hemyari (soprano) and Jake Mann (clarinet and bass clarinet) at the PUNCTUM COLLECTIVE concert held at Salvatorsall, Vienna, on June 11, 2025.

«کَرَک» موومان دوم از مجموعه‌ی «گنبد»-که موومان اول آن دو یا سه سال پیش نوشته و در خانقاه چلپی اوغلی ضبط شد- امروز باجرای نامدار مجیدی و هنرمندی نوید نقره زاد در امور صدا، بدست من رسید.
«کَرَک» بعد از قطعه‌ی ارکستری من ساخته شد: در شروع تابستانی که هنوز بپایان نرسیده و با تاثیری عمیق از سریال بی نظیر «هزاردستان» ساخته‌ی علی حاتمی و صحبتهای موثر در آخرین روز دیدار معلم آهنگسازی من: پروفسور مارتین لیشتفوس شروع شد.
“رضا تفنگچی”، مردی که جوهری عارفانه در وجودش داشت، و نیز نشانه گیری بود ماهر، که در جوانی وارد انجمنی شد که هدف ایشان ترور اشخاص خائن به ملت بود(انجمن مجازات)، بعد از رخداد اتفاقاتی فرار و از تهران  به مشهد پناه برد و بشکل شگفت‌انگیزی به پیری عارف مسلک و استادی در خطاطی بدل شد، که بعدها به “رضا خوشنویس” شهره شد.
مایه‌ی او واحد بود: چه در عهد شباب که گهگاه لبش به شراب تر بود و انگشتش در ماشه‌ی تفنگ جای داشت و همچون پروانه‌ای  بدور شمعی در سقاخانه چرخید و سوخت و به خیال خود خائن به ملتی را از بین برد، و چه در پیری که همان انگشت، جوهر از قلم نئین میچکاند، بر کاغذ و مسلک عارفی داشت؛ در چشمان من هر دو یکی آمد! این تغییر، عجیب و غریب و بزرگ بنظر میرسید: تغییر “رضا تفنگچی” -که شکار کبک و گوزن و آهو در رکاب شازده میکرد و صورتش از شرابِ سرخ، سرخ بود-و البته مولانا را میشناخت-، که ناگهان آتش درون او بتوسط “ابوالفتح” روشن‌‌تر شد و وارد انجمن شد-. به “رضا خوشنویس” گوشه‌گیرِ آرام و بیصدا.
ولیکن این تغییرات ظاهری چیزی از آتش سرخ درون او و انگشت پروانه‌وارش نکاست.
بعد از سالها مشقت ب طریقی که روایت شده به تهران میرود و در پی تکمیل کاری میشود که در دوران جوانی ناتمام مانده بود، که همان ترور هزاردستان بود.
بهرشکل: این تغییرات فاحش ظاهری انسانی در طول سالیانِ عمرِ او، و علاقه شخصی من به مبحث عرفان و خوشنویسی(که خود شکلی‌ست از عرفان و خودشناسی) و ذات عجیب و غریبِ “رضا” مایه‌‌ای شد برای شروع، ادامه و پایان این قطعه، و «کَرَک» نام پرنده‌ایست که به پندار ایرانیان لقمه‌ی کودک صغیری را خورد و از عذاب وجدان، تا پایانِ عمرش به گفتن “بَدبَده” مشغول بود.
این شاید بظاهر ارتباطی مستقیم  به “رضا” نداشته باشد اما به شرایط اجتماعی و سیاسی او شبیه است.
البته این قطعه برداشتهاییست کاملا شخصی از اتفاقات تشریح شده درباره “رضا”! همانطور که بظاهر-و فقط بظاهر- «کرک» ارتباطی با “رضا” ندارد،  و ارتباطش با شرایط دوران اوست.

Parsa Zandi – Persian Composer (b. 2004, Tehran, Iran)



Parsa is deeply drawn to the expressive potential of microtonality, blending delicate melodies with rich textures. Intuition and emotion play a central role in his music, guiding a natural balance between structure and expressivity. He strives to create an immersive musical experience where melody and atmosphere come together with sincerity and depth.

He studied composition with Mohammad H. Javaheri and Karen Keyhani in Iran. Parsa later studied composition with Beat Furrer and is now continuing his studies under the supervision of Annesley Black. He was also an Erasmus student at the University of the Arts Berlin (UDK).

Parsa Zandi has had lessons with notable composers such as Chaya Czernowin, Franck Bedrossian, Iris ter Schiphorst, Johannes Maria Staud, Klaus Lang, Mark Andre, Mathias Hinke, Pierluigi Billone, Samir Odeh Tamimi, Clemens Gadenstätter, and Artur Kroschel.

Parsa Zandi's compositions have been performed in several countries, including Austria, Canada, Germany, Iran, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, the USA, Poland, and others. His works have been featured in festivals and programs such as Open Call Nodus 2022, Residencia Artística en Les Coves de Vinromà 2022, FestMus 2023 Castello, ICCS Young Talents 2023, Roadrunner Academy 2024, ClarinetFest 2024 in Dublin, Brass Academy Musikfabrik 2025, In Situ Graz, and the 54th International Contemporary Music Festival Poznań Musical Spring 2025.

His compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles including Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble Zeitfluss, Ensemble für Neue Musik Graz, Sepia Ensemble, CSMC Brass Band & Contemporary Ensemble, and the Roadrunner Trio. Additionally, musicians like Thomas Piercy, Elena Arbonies Jauregui, Kathryn Vetter, Mario Porcar Rueda, and others have collaborated with him.
