"Celebrating a year of successful weekly edit campaigns, Parisian discophile Young Pulse legitimises his dealings with GAMM. This is the first of a series of collections and every track is a dancefloor-tweaked gem. Average White Band's "Work To Do" gets a slick groove extension, a very young Michael Jackson gets a cheeky arrangement polish and added beat muscle on "I Wanna Be Where You Are" and Minnie Ripperton's "Baby, This Love I Have" gets a complete strip-and-rebuild. We conclude with Leon Ware's "Why I Came To California" where Pulse ensures the latent funk in the bass and groove are brought fully for the fore. Stunning."

Patrice Rushen – Never Gonna Give You Up (Joey Negro Re-Grooved Mix)
I procured the multi for this killer dance cut from Patrice’s “Posh” album over 5 years ago and completed the remix a while back but we couldn’t clear it for RWL 2 due to the rights to her music being in limbo while it was sold by Warner Brothers to German indie !K7. This is one of the more radical remixes on the album. In all other cases I base the new version around the original music, sometimes adding extra riffs or replaying bass or guitar. I tried that approach on “Never…” but it just wasn’t happening. I went back to it a few times but I didn’t seem to be able to come up with anything particularly interesting so I decided to go a different direction and attempt to change the music next time I had Kaidi Tatham in the studio playing keys. He did a great job with a groove that is a little like her classic “Number One” and though the chords are different we managed to make most of the original strings and brass work with them.

Nubiyan Twist are a Leeds born, London based musical collective. Orchestrated by guitarist/producer Tom Excell, they create a unique, infectious sound in an eclectic mix of styles, drawing on jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, latin, soul, reggae and dance music.  

With a 10 piece live show featuring a 4 piece horn section, vocalists, electronics and an international (Brazil/UK) rhythm section, Nubiyan Twist create a powerful and unforgettable experience.  

Their debut album received strong support across the Jazz, World music and Hip-hop press, with support from sources as diverse as Huey Morgan, David Rodigan, Craig Charles, The Independent, Songlines, Afropunk and SBTV. This was followed up with Siren Song in May 2016.

The band have performed on huge stages across the world, being chosen by David Byrne to perform at Queen Elizabeth Hall for the south bank’s Meltdown festival, selling out London’s iconic Jazz Cafe, and rocking festival stages from Fusion to Wilderness, Boomtown to Edinburgh Jazz Festival, with their powerful sound and unique blend of styles.
